Position:
- Secondary Math Coach - Teacher
Role and Responsibilities:
The Secondary Math Coach will report to a Central Principal and will act as a member of the Program Team, supporting secondary math teachers through classroom embedded professional learning, instructional supports, and school/system monitoring. This position will work in partnership with the system Math Coordinator and Math Lead and support key priorities of the Math Achievement Action Plan to:
- Strengthen educator content knowledge to support the effective implementation of the math curriculum, the de-streamed Grade 9 math course, and fundamental math concepts and skills
- Improve educator confidence in applying high-impact instructional and assessment practices
- Develop educator ability to identify gaps in student learning and provide interventions to increase the performance, confidence and engagement of all students, including students facing systemic barriers in their math learning (e.g., Indigenous students, Black students and students living in low-income households, and students with disabilities and special education needs)
- Enhance educator ability to support successful transitions between grades, with a specific focus on the intermediate and secondary grades
- Advance leadership in schools to eliminate disparities in outcomes and support culture shifts so all students can be successful in math
- Increase parent engagement and providing families with tools and resources to support math learning at home.
Required Teaching Qualifications:
- A Valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate
- Intermediate and Secondary Teaching Qualifications
- Additional Qualifications in Math (Math Specialist preferred)
Position Criteria:
The Secondary Math Coach will possess:
- Strong Qualifications in Mathematics and will have demonstrated effective instructional and assessment practices
- Exceptional Leadership and Facilitation skills
- Experience in supporting students with special education needs in mathematics
- Experience supporting school improvement planning, implementation and monitoring
- Developed understanding of the Priorities and Objectives of the Math Achievement Action Plan
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with administrators, educators, families and community/education partners
- Effective Outreach Strategies to ensure parent awareness and engagement in math learning
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the district.
