2027-069: Temporary Child and Youth Worker (1.0 FTE)
Duties to commence October 2, 2026 and end on or about October 12, 2027 (or earlier if incumbent returns or circumstances change).
The Child & Youth Worker, in partnership with their Social Work colleagues and education staff, supports the School Team to enhance outcomes for students struggling with social, emotional, mental health or behavioural difficulties by offering Tier 1 SEL programming in classrooms and groups. Specific supports and/or interventions are determined through collaboration with the school team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Core Child and Youth Workers bring expertise in the field of teaching and mentoring students in the areas of social skills, decision making, self-regulation, peer relationships, bullying, self-care and problem solving. They also support learning related to mental health by offering prescriptive programming in the field of Mental Health Literacy and supporting peer programs aimed at developing leadership skills and a mentally healthy school culture.
- Provide fundamental SEL programming in classrooms and group settings
- Provide specific and time limited one to one skill building sessions with students related to enhancing SEL skills, as determined from consultation/case planning with Social Work
- Work with the assigned Social Worker to bridge home-school communication and set goals for intervention as determined by the team
- Maintain progress notes on all meetings regarding referred students
- Meet weekly with the School Team to evaluate and monitor ongoing progress of the student
- Build capacity with school staff regarding Behaviour Management Strategies
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Social Emotional Learning Skills and Strategies.
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and build/maintain relationships
- Strong organizational skills
- Independent thinker and learner
- Knowledge and experience with Applied Behaviour Analysis would be an asset
- Strong coaching, collaborative skills
- Social Group leadership skills
- Comfortable with offering presentations in classroom/group settings
