Reports to: Operations Leader, Energy (Vancouver Island)
As an Electrical Safety Officer, you will:
- Education: educate clients and stakeholders on how to meet safety requirements and provide information on new requirements and trends by creating and/or providing presentations, demonstrations, or individual coaching. e.g., public speaking events like Tech Talks.
- Inspection: provide inspection services, including worksite audits, incident investigations and hazard eliminations, to clients and stakeholders to ensure that safety regulations, codes and standards are correctly implemented, and reviews requests for variances and equivalencies and makes recommendations to the Operations Leader.
- Compliance & Enforcement: implement enforcement policies by providing clear direction and outlining consequences to clients and by providing disciplinary recommendations to Operations Leader.
- Research: support research tasks by documenting inspections, providing audits, and investigating incidents, and maintaining expertise by staying up to date on industry changes and upgrading knowledge and skills.
- Training: develop new Safety Officers by providing on-the-job training, regular mentoring, and ongoing technical support.
- Teamwork: approach work collaboratively with an open mindset for both internal team members and external clients.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in electrical work.
- Preference for a two-year diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology in electrical technology.
- Minimum of five years related experience in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems.
- At least one year of practical experience being in a responsible position in charge of electrical installation work.
- Knowledge of audit programs and risk assessment techniques.
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to investigate, interview, take notes and write concise reports.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and code specifications.
- Ability to work in a computerized environment and use common software.
- A Valid BC Drivers’ License and a willingness to travel (A driver’s abstract will be requested).
- Good physical ability to carry a toolbox (up to 30 lbs.), climb ladders and stairways, walk on rough, uneven ground, enter tight enclosed or confined spaces, and drive for long distances (A medical assessment will be requested).
- FSR B certification required
