Job Summary:
The Automation/Process Engineer will ensure that Automated Manufacturing processes are developed and implemented to support all plant performance objectives including improved safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead automation projects, including the specification of equipment, justification of costs, implementation into manufacturing operations, and qualification of equipment.
- Champion the transition of traditional manufacturing processes to automated processes and develop a strategic plan to increase the uses of automation throughout the business.
- Provide specialized technical expertise in the application and use of Control, Automation technology and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for plant facilities and processes.
- Improve the overall safety of the plant’s equipment and processes.
- Drive continuous improvement in our major equipment and processes to improve OEE, productivity, quality, and cost.
- Support the integration of smart manufacturing strategy elements to include planning, budgeting, and execution of visual management systems across manufacturing processes.
- Participate in development of long-range process and facilities planning, capital expenditure and cost savings programs.
- Provide engineering innovations that will improve process control and product quality.
- Work closely with Production, Planning and other departments (Purchasing, Maintenance or outside vendors) to plan work activities.
- Perform/direct the design, development, installation, cost control, and evaluation of complex engineering projects.
- Maintain knowledge of current and new automation technologies to identify opportunities to implement in our manufacturing operations.
- Lead problem solving of automated equipment issues to root cause to eliminate downtime and flow interruptions.
- Act as an internal consultant and catalyst to assist individuals and teams in the application of ABS Lean Manufacturing principles and techniques to improve operation.
- Support leadership at all levels to meet business improvement metrics through the application of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen techniques, and ABS. Establish reporting and communication processes to inform organizations of results and opportunities.
- Assist in the education and training of employees that directly interact with the automated processes.
- Maintain a current awareness of the “state-of-the-art” in mechanical, electrical, control, and automation techniques.
- Forward thinking, tireless driver for change that results in sustainable improvement.
You have: (required)
- Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering Technologist degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience focusing on automation or controls (design, programming, project commissioning & field troubleshooting) in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Employee must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Experience with industrial control equipment (digital, analytics and programmable logic controllers).
- Training and experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts, principles and practices.
- Experience with software programs for HMIs, PLCs (Rockwell Automation, Siemens) or similar control and automation products.
- Device integration experience via serial, TCP/IP and proprietary protocols.
- Smart analytical and digital devices.
