Role Summary:

The main purpose of the Canada Compliance Lead role is to lead the implementation of the Compliance Program in Canada to prevent, detect and respond to violations of law, regulations and company policies to protect and enhance Elvium’s corporate reputation by ensuring an effective compliance program is in place. This role plays a pivotal part in advising and enabling senior leadership within Canada to identify, assess, prevent and manage risks with respect to compliance and integrity matters in a consistent and systematic manner in line with the global Compliance Program and company standards and in a manner that reflects local applicable legal, regulatory and industry code rules and standards, as well as business objectives and strategies.

This role is also the main compliance contact for employees in Canada and is responsible for providing training, guidance and advice on matters related to the implementation of the global Compliance Program and application of company standards to day-to-day activities.

Furthermore, the role will provide support to global initiatives in of the following two areas:

  • Compliance training, policies and communications, and support for Third Party Risk Management activities under the direction of the Global Functions Compliance and Third Party Risk Management Lead;
  • Compliance monitoring, risk identification and corrective/preventative action design and tracking under the direction of the Global Compliance Lead (ex-China).
  • Approximate split of responsibility: 75/25

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance partner for Canada responsible for ensuring effective and consistent implementation of the Compliance Program taking into consideration particular local laws and regulations.

The Canada Compliance Lead is required to take responsibility for the following:

  • Undertaking regular reviews of Canada and utilize local and regional trends and data to proactively improve and strengthen the Compliance Program in the market.
  • Assess and modify the implementation of the Compliance Program where necessary to adjust to meet local laws, regulations and to identify higher priority risk areas of focus.
  • Monitoring healthcare professional activities to assess the effectiveness of the Compliance Program and to identify areas of risk;
  • Develop close business partnering relationships within the cluster to foster trust and provide informed risk and compliance advice and support the business to identify, assess, manage and monitor key risks and compliance matters. This requires strong stakeholder management of multiple stakeholders across the Canadian business.
  • Conduct regular training and providing tools and resources for employees to understand the compliance requirements and how to identify and address risk. This will require tailoring to the particular audience.
  • Partner with leadership to drive a strong culture of integrity and ethics by building a trusted and collaborative partnership with the leaders and supporting a speak up culture.
  • Be an active member of the Canadian leadership team to provide advice on the evaluation of business strategies to mitigate risks and to drive a strong culture of integrity and ethics.
  • Conduct and/or support compliance investigations into misconduct and influence the leadership team to take accountability for remediation and mitigation of risks identified.
  • Provide support to Global Compliance initiatives in one of the two following areas, or otherwise as requested:
  • Compliance training, policies and communications, and support for Third Party Risk Management activities under the direction of the Global Functions Compliance and Third Party Risk Management Lead; or Compliance monitoring, risk identification and corrective/preventative action design and tracking under the direction of the Global Compliance Lead (ex-China).

Skills & Experience:

  • Deep knowledge of regulator expectations for company compliance programs, particularly U.S., U.K. and Canadian regulators.
  • Strong understanding of key compliance risk areas facing multi-national companies in highly-regulated industries, as well as associated laws and industry standards, including healthcare compliance, anti-bribery/anti-corruption, and conflicts of interest.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with individuals and groups at all levels of an organization, in all settings.
  • Proven success in developing strategy and turning it into tangible action plans
  • Proven success in designing and implementing effective global compliance programs in highly-regulated industries, preferably in the healthcare industry, and with the complexity of implementing in different countries whilst ensuring compliance with local industry association and legal requirements
  • Experience presenting to and advising senior leadership; capable of producing leadership-level presentations and managing multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to manage different risks and the ability to adjust the compliance program accordingly
  • Highly collaborative with team members, manager and business/functional partners to ensure shared information, alignment, and proactive awareness of risks or issues
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing needs and priorities; willingness to stretch in response to team needs. Role model for our guiding principles; able to demonstrate prior performance that aligns with these principles
  • Passionate about and able to inspire excitement in the Compliance Program, and drive cultural change
  • Credible business partner with a solid understanding of business strategy; a track record of contributing to and proactively identifying opportunities for solutions to enable business strategic goals
  • Courageous and trusted collaborator with strong influencing skills and a track record of constructively challenging business stakeholders to ensure high-integrity decisions, influence business decisions, hold the business to account for behavior’s and decision-making
  • Proven expertise in identifying and applying change management methodologies and tools to successfully deliver and embed changes in the business, understanding barriers to success and advising on how to navigate and manage them

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) focused on business, finance, law, ethics, economics or other relevant discipline
  • English (speaking, reading and writing)
  • French (speaking and writing preferred)
