Job Overview

The Career and Life Readiness Programmer (Programmer) is a member of the Lakeland Centre for FASD 2nd Floor Women’s Recovery Centre (2nd Floor) team, with a specific direction in providing 2nd Floor clients with support services. Under the authority of the 2nd Floor Supervisor, the Programmer assumes responsibility for carrying out assigned duties including the creation and monitoring of programming schedules (individual and group) and the development and delivery of appropriate life skills-based programming to 2nd Floor clients. Programming areas include, but are not limited to, daily living, holistic recovery programming, alternative therapies, financial literacy, parenting, prenatal and postpartum education, FASD education and additional programming that aligns with 2nd Floor’s program model and client Individual Recovery Plan’s

Duties

• Provide mentorship, advocacy and support to women who may be pregnant, have issues with problematic substance use and want to be in a recovery program.
• Provide support to clients with emotional regulation difficulties and behavioural challenges.
• Coordinate and ensure delivery of daily program activities while maintaining client priorities and compliance with program model, policies and procedures.
• Develop, schedule and implement programming in the areas of vocational training, employment support, life skills/social skills training, recreational activities, personal care needs, behavioral support and addiction & mental health support.
• Work in partnership with local and provincial support services to build relationships, determine gaps in service delivery and recommend strategies for improvement.
• Attend community events as required.
• Transportation and attendance to client appointments or programming as required.
• Complete case notes in an accurate and timely manner.
• Complete monthly reporting.
  
  

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in human services, addiction & mental health, social work or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years direct experience working with an addiction and/or mental health field.
• Experience supporting women in their healing and understanding of issues impacting women who experience poverty, trauma, homelessness, substance use and mental health disorders.
• Must be culturally competent.
• Experience supporting clients with behavioral challenges and implementing safety precautions in environmental working conditions that may contain the following: inappropriate language, verbal, and physical aggression.
• Experience developing and facilitating life skills and/or recreation-based programming and/or workshops to youth, adults, or both.
• Oral and written communication skills, ranging from individual case management to collaborating with community agencies and speak in front of large groups on behalf of the LCFASD.
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
• Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector Screening).
• Child Intervention record check.
• A current Class 5 driver’s license, satisfactory driver’s abstract and good insurance history is necessary to be insured by LCFASD, as transportation of clients is required.
• This position will require driving and use of personal vehicle when the LCFASD vehicle is not available.
• Proof of third-party insurance in the amount of 2 million dollars is required.
  
  

Assets

• Knowledge of best practice and evidence-based approaches in addiction and mental health treatment considered an asset.
• Experience with crisis management, safety planning, discharge planning and knowledge of de-escalation techniques considered an asset.
• Experience in supporting individuals to achieve their goals from a holistic perspective considered an asset.
• Knowledge of FASD, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Practice and Relational Theory will be considered an asset.
• Experience working persons with neurodevelopmental disorders, at-risk populations and knowledge of barriers to employment will be considered an asset.
• Knowledge of concurrent disorders will be considered an asset.
• Leadership experience will be considered an asset.
  
  

Working Conditions And Physical Requirements

• The 2nd Floor Programmer will be considered an on-duty staff that will work ‘on the floor’ and be responsible for the active supervision of clients.
• Hours of work are flexible within a one month time frame: 36.25 hours per week not to exceed 145 hours per 4 week period.
• Available to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, as approved by the 2nd Floor Supervisor.
• Overtime may be required.
• Shift work may be required to meet staff: client ratio.
• The Programmer is a member of the On-Call supervisory team and may be required to provide coverage on evenings, overnights, weekends, or holidays).
• Potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids and/or other communicable diseases.
• May be exposed to clients with behaviors such as inappropriate language, verbal, and physical aggression, and be required to respond and/or provide support to clients and team in such situations.
  
  

Job Type: Temporary, Full-time

Pay: $25.18-$27.29 per hour
