Our Québec Technical Services team is looking for a Civil Engineer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a growth-oriented organization and to gain experience and an understanding of the energy sector. The Civil Engineer will be part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project technicians that maintains and upgrades our Québec hydroelectric facilities and ensures that they are working properly. These facilities comprise six (6) hydroelectric stations on the Lièvre River, in the Outaouais region, and on the Noire and Coulonge Rivers, in the Pontiac region. They also include multiple water control structures and dams, some of which being of high importance.

Onsite location: Masson, Quebec office or Gatineau (Hull), Quebec office

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act as project manager for projects involving dams and hydroelectric developments;
  • Manage investment projects and asset maintenance at each stage, including identification, definition, planning, execution, closing and transfer to the customer:
    • Develop a unique execution strategy for each project to define, clarify and communicate the general and overall direction needed to attain the desired purpose;
    • Prepare and proactively and effectively control budgets, timetables and all the activities related to their projects, and minimize the risks for Evolugen through effective management;
    • Manage the assessments/studies and professional services contracts related to their projects, including conceptual studies and preliminary engineering, detailed engineering, calls for tender, site supervision, quality control et technical support;
  • Act as technical expert and liaise with external resources with respect to and civil engineering;
  • Provide the technical expertise for the various assets, and more specifically hydraulic structures, dams and buildings;
  • Prepare lists of civil projects, and develop the required budget for their implementation;
  • Work closely with consulting engineering firms and internal multidisciplinary teams;
  • Participate in the development and update of standards, methods, practices and frameworks;
  • Ensure the strict and proactive compliance with our health, safety, security and environment (HSS&E) requirements and guidelines by contractors, consultants and members of the teams associated with these projects.

You Should Apply If You

  • Possess practical experience and demonstrated expertise in the design of construction or refurbishment hydraulic structures, bridges or buildings;
  • Possess practical and demonstrated experience in managing civil projects and all related elements, including:
    • Developing, preparing, coordinating and executing projects, closing and transferring information, with the skills required to proactively control the progress of projects, address deviations and develop action plans;
    • Proposing a structured, organized, but flexible approach that can be adapted to each project and its specific characteristics.
  • Have safe work habits and be familiar with local/regional health and safety regulatory requirements;
  • Have leadership skills and the ability to surround themselves with the needed resources and support;
  • Possess a demonstrated experience in leading and motivating a multidisciplinary team, including consultants, external contractors and maintenance personnel;
  • Possess the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team and interpersonal skills;
  • Have the technical understanding required to comfortably navigate and understand the technical issues related to their projects;
  • Possess problem-solving skills, analytical independence and good judgment to be able to propose and communicate innovative solutions;
  • Possess effective organization skills, including the ability to organize and execute work independently and manage conflicting priorities;
  • Possess the ability to effectively organize and structure their work and demonstrate the level of proactive agility and flexibility needed to adapt their approach to the specific characteristics of each project and changes.
  • Have strong communication skills, oral and written.
