Sinai Health is looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist, is looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to support our 10 South, General Internal Medicine/Cardiology Inpatient Unit. The role is located at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.
As a member of the leadership team, you will lead and support knowledge based practice and the development of standards and quality initiatives that enhance safe, high quality patient and family centred care. The role will also support program development and nursing professional practice.
About The General Internal Medicine And Cardiology Unit
A 24-bed General Internal Medicine and Cardiology unit. The patient population is often socially, functionally and medically complex. Clinical staff will have a broad knowledge base in the areas of medical and cardiac care and wound and skin care. Common medical conditions include but are not limited to: heart failure, COPD, gastrointestinal bleeds, cancer, delirium, and sepsis. An inter-disciplinary team delivers care on 10 South. Strong communication between team members, community care providers, patients and their families or caregivers is valued.

In This Role You Will
- Develop and maintain standards of nursing practice and management of patient care through the creation of an environment conducive to growth, the development of staff and excellence in nursing practice
- Support and foster the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing
- Collaborate with the clinical leadership team in setting the direction for quality nursing practice and effective management of patient care
- Lead quality activities and administrative duties including committee involvement
- Support and collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members to promote and strengthen the team approach to care
- Support the nursing care of patients with complex medical needs, including skin and wound care
- Participate in policy and procedure development
- Participate in research activities and initiating and implementing evidence based practice to support practices
- Deliver, coordinate and participate in education and professional development activities/programs; performing activities to further develop and strengthen the profession of nursing
- Mentor and develop nursing staff in practice and leadership activities
- Provide direct clinical support and evaluation of nursing practice and performance
- Promote and support the maintenance of a safe patient care and work environment from a practice perspective; includes engaging in safety audits, promoting staff accountability in workplace safety, and ensuring that adequate structures and processes are in place such as staffing, equipment, supplies, physical space, policies and procedures
- Collaborate with the leadership team in creating a positive work environment at the unit level
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Mandatory
- Completion (or in progress) of a Master's Degree Program in Nursing (Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with a Master's Degree in a related discipline may be considered)
- Five (5) years recent related experience in acute medicine or cardiology
- Applicants with proven equivalent recent and related training and experience may be considered
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
- Current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Membership in RNAO or other organizations relevant to role
- Medical and/or cardiology certification from Canadian Nurses Association (CNA)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer services skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Excellent decision making, problem recognition, problem solving skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative practice
- Ability to utilize information technology
- Expertise in program development and coordination, research utilization, adult education and professional development
- Experience in program management and evaluation; as well as performance and process improvement
- Ability to foster sound working relationships with clients/patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, and internal and community referral sources
- Strong facilitation, relationship management and change management skills
- Ability to work confidently under pressure and tight timelines and demonstrate the flexibility and adaptability to handle a variety of challenges on short notice
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record
