About the Role:
The Community Engagement Worker plays a vital role in fostering strong, positive relationships between community members and local organizations. This position is focused on understanding community needs, facilitating inclusive participation, and promoting social cohesion through outreach and collaborative initiatives. The successful candidate will design and implement programs that empower individuals and groups, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns addressed. Minimum Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in social work, community development, sociology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with diverse communities in a community engagement or outreach capacity.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with people from various backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in using standard office software and digital communication tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or other culturally diverse populations within Canada.
- Knowledge of local social services, community resources, and relevant government programs.
- Training or certification in conflict resolution, facilitation, or community organizing.
- Bilingualism in English and French or other languages commonly spoken in Canadian communities.
- Familiarity with data collection methods and program evaluation techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain trusting relationships with community members, leaders, and partner organizations to identify needs and opportunities for engagement.
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and events that encourage participation and dialogue among diverse groups.
- Conduct outreach activities to engage underrepresented or marginalized populations, ensuring inclusivity in all programs and initiatives.
- Collaborate with local agencies and stakeholders to design and implement community development projects that address social, economic, and cultural issues.
- Collect and analyze feedback from community members to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
- Provide support and resources to individuals and groups to enhance their capacity for self-advocacy and community involvement.
- Prepare reports and documentation to communicate progress, challenges, and outcomes to supervisors and funding bodies.
