About The Job

Reporting to the Building Manager, the Concierge, is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of the building and its tenants providing non-judgmental positive interactions with tenants and guests of the Alex; maintaining relationships in a manner consistent with Atira Women’s Resource Society’s policy and procedure manual; maintaining an awareness of local agencies and groups in the community to provide helpful information to tenants and guests; holding the confidentiality of the organization, and the tenants and guests as sacrosanct and respecting this confidentiality absolutely.

Please note: This program serves individuals who identify and live full time as women, including those who have experienced gender based violence and misogyny.

To ensure a safe, accessible, trauma informed, and culturally responsive environment for residents, this position requires staff who identify and live full time as women. The presence of women staff is essential to meeting residents’ needs related to safety, dignity, privacy, and effective support.

Applicants must identify and live full time as women (including cisgender, transgender, Two Spirit, intersex women) or non-binary to be eligible for this position.

About You

You support those who choose abstinence while recognizing abstinence is just one option among many. You are inclusive and affirming of people of all genders, including transgender, Two-Spirit, intersex, transfeminine and non-binary individuals, and understand the realities of gendered violence, misogyny, systemic barriers and how these harms disproportionately impact women. You are sex worker positive – you understand sex work, including survival sex work, as part of a broader social, economic, and gendered context and bring an approach grounded in respect, autonomy, and dignity.

You treat others with fairness and respect, challenge practices that conflict with shared values, and contribute to a supportive, accountable team environment. You inspire others through your commitment to anti-violence and promoting equity, prioritize the needs of the communities we serve, and challenge the status quo to improve quality and sustainability. You take smart risks and make thoughtful, timely decisions.

Additional Requisites/Assets

  • Grade 10
  • One (1) year recent related experience working as a concierge or security guard.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience 

  • WHMIS certificate is an asset
  • A valid First Aid Certificate is required
  • Covid-19 & Annual Flu vaccinations recommended annually.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is an asset
  • Security Certificate is an asset
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position and carry out heavy cleaning duties
  • All positions are subject to a criminal records review
