Controller - Remote - #189081
Mesa CPA

At Mesa CPA, we do things differently. Instead of rigid job descriptions and salary caps, our team earns a percentage of the value they manage. Our controllers oversee a portfolio of clients and accountants, acting as both quality lead and client relationship manager. You’ll have autonomy, support, and clear expectations—all without the red tape.
If you’re experienced, organized, and care deeply about client outcomes, this is the kind of role that rewards you properly.
Why us?
You’ve probably worked in firms where your experience wasn’t reflected in your compensation—or where your voice didn’t shape how things were done. That’s not how we operate.
At Mesa, you own your results. And you get paid like it.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Work from anywhere, with flexibility built around client needs
- A clear portfolio of clients and accountants you oversee
- Direct input into how we improve our systems and service
- Pay based entirely on the value you manage — no ceiling
- A team-first culture built on trust, not bureaucracy
If you’re looking for a leadership role that still gives you freedom and upside—this is it.

You’re responsible for quality, retention, and overall satisfaction across your accounts. You’ll support your team, solve problems, and keep both internal standards and client trust high.
This role is best suited for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, likes coaching others, and knows how to balance precision with client care.
Key Activities Include:
- Review client deliverables: monthly financials, reconciliations, payroll, and tax filings
- Provide coaching and oversight to 4–8 accountants
- Lead onboarding and cleanup projects as needed (with extra compensation)
- Manage the client relationship, including escalations and expectations
- Ensure all work is accurate, timely, and within scope
- Host weekly syncs and retros with the team to align and improve

- You proactively solve issues and maintain high quality
- You manage your portfolio without burnout
- You feel respected, paid fairly, and clear on your next steps here
Skill Requirements

- Experience leading small teams or managing client portfolios
- Comfortable giving feedback and coaching others
- Strong communication, attention to detail, and follow-through
- Familiarity with tools like QBO, Dext, Wagepoint, ClickUp
Who This Role Isn’t For

- Screening with our People & Culture Manager
- Technical interview and case-based review
