Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager of ICU, the Critical Care Informatics Nurse supports quality improvement initiatives and comprehensive performance monitoring for Island health through the development and ongoing maintenance of designated clinical databases. The Critical Care Informatics Nurse ensures the integrity of collected data in the mandated performance monitoring and quality improvement activities.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Minimum 2 year recent relevant Critical Care nursing experience and or an accredited Critical Care course. Extensive experience working with personal computers.

Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability and experience in the development, maintenance and use of a database.
  • Ability to analyse/interpret data, manipulate/extract data, apply basic statistical concepts and prepare written reports.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate actively within a team structure
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining successful working relationships with customers, their families, colleagues, stakeholders and others.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems using quality improvement processes.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently, able to work with minimal direct supervision, and has a demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a self-directed manner.
  • Ability to coach, facilitate others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including computer software applications.
