Job Summary

As a Director of Operations, you will be responsible for implementing manufacturing policies and programs which guide the plant in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation. This role directly oversees safety, order entry, procurement, manufacturing, quality and engineering and will work collaboratively across the entire organization to ensure sales needs are met. Successful candidates will direct and coordinate these activities so that approved products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives.

Leadership

Job Duties:

  • Provide leadership and development to the team and create an engaging environment with clear responsibilities, defined goals and objectives and visibility to weekly progress reporting.
  • Works collaboratively in a matrix organization:
    • Partner with sales on demand planning to ensure that the upcoming needs are planned and able to be met and products are shipped on time, accurately and completely.
    • Responsible for keeping up-to-date on equipment changes, additions, and modifications.
  • Responsible for the annual budget, including capital expenditures and direct preparation of cost control reports, cost estimates, manpower and facilities requirements forecasts.
Process Improvement

  • Transform company culture to one of Continuous Improvement and Accountability. Develop, recommend and support lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement throughout the facility.
  • Formulates and installs standard manufacturing practices based on comparative studies of methods, costs and production figures.
  • Identify and develop process improvement champions in the organization, to continuously review and improve efficiencies and processes.

Procurement And Quality

  • Directs the manufacture of products at the lowest cost consistent with established specifications as to quality and quantity.
  • Establishes inventory controls and ensures inventory turn metrics are achieved
  • Works with procurement to review quality reports, and ensure suppliers are meeting company quality standards.
  • Works with procurement to create a sustainable supply chain and monitor for continuous improvements.
  • Responsible for keeping up-to-date on equipment changes, additions, and modifications that may require a change in scope for the operations team.
  • Participate as a member of the Quality Assurance Team and work with the team to ensure quality metrics and countermeasures are implemented.

General

  • Ensure all team members comply with all applicable OSHA, EPA, local regulatory laws, and company safety policies.
  • Comply with all applicable OHSA, ESA and other provincial regulatory laws, as well as company safety policies
  • Any other duties as assigned by the SVP of Operations or Senior Leadership team.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Business or other related discipline
  • Green Belt or Black Belt Certification, preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years successfully leading a manufacturing organization
  • Experience in low volume/high mix manufacturing preferred
  • Management, Leadership and staff development experience
  • Ability to implement lean manufacturing practices
  • Perform the responsibilities of the position at a satisfactory level of efficiency
  • Must maintain the confidentiality of employees, departments, and company business
  • May sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Must utilize a laptop or PC routinely
  • Must have a valid passport or travel credentials

Salary Range: $133,000 – 175,000 CAD
