Electrical Studies Engineer – Mid/Senior Level
POWER Engineers Canada is seeking a senior-level Electrical Studies Engineer for our offices in Airdrie or Edmonton, Alberta.
Roles and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for completing assigned projects and maintaining and improving client relationships.
- Completing these functions requires technical competence in primary production roles, as well as the ability to work effectively with clients and mentor team members assigned to projects.
- Assigned projects will include electrical studies and/or protective relay settings for utility and industrial/commercial clients. The bulk electric systems to be analyzed will consist of conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, and transmission and distribution systems.
- The level of this engineer requires an individual who has experience participating in the proposal writing process and enjoys customer contact to assist in developing new opportunities for POWER.
- This person must be able to self-manage, with strong conceptualization abilities and effective interpersonal communication and organizational skills, including the capability to explain complex technical issues at various levels to decision-makers and project teams.
- Substation grounding, arc flash, corona and electric and magnetic fields, AC interference (transmission line interaction with railroads and pipelines.
- Applicable Software: CDEGS, WinIGS,
- Successful candidates must be willing to travel occasionally and work successfully in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment.
- A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of industry experience performing studies in technical disciplines described above.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including proposal writing, report writing, and technical presentation.
- Willing to travel (10% or more at times).
- Ability to work successfully in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment.
- Preference is given to applicants with any of the following: specific training and/or power system courses covering topics such as protective relaying, symmetrical components, transmission line theory, power, and power system electromagnetics.
- Professional registration is not required; however, preference is given to applicants who are registered professional engineers (P.E., P. Eng.).
- Preference is given to applicants with working knowledge and experience in more than one of the applicable software packages listed above.
- Preference is also given to applicants with experience in customer-focused engineering projects in the technical areas above.
