The Opportunity:

Provides a clean, safe, secure and efficiently-operating environment for users of recreation facilities. Completes assigned work and supervises users in assigned facilities. Performs maintenance duties at the assigned facility, resurfaces ice, monitors technical equipment (pool or arenas), conducts water tests, cleans maintains equipment and ice or playing fields and other facility components, according to established standards. Assumes responsibility and provides leadership for the facility (and staff) in the absence of the Facility Operator/Custodial Specialist.

Top Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Operation & Maintenance - Ensure safe, efficient, and fully functional facility operations. Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot building systems and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and custodial tasks. Operate specialized systems (pool, arena/ice, sports fields, and facility spaces). Set up and take down spaces for events, programs, and bookings. Monitor facility use to ensure compliance with schedules and standards. Respond to operational issues and emergencies; coordinate repairs as needed. Order supplies and liaise with contractors
  • Supervision & Leadership - Support staff and oversee operations as required. Provide direction in the absence of the Facility Operator. Train and orient staff on procedures and safety. Model professionalism, customer service, and work standards. Participate in on-call duties.
  • Risk Management, Safety & Security - Maintain a safe and compliant environment. Follow safety regulations, policies, and best practices. Identify hazards, enforce safe behavior, and address security concerns. Participate in safety programs, inspections, and emergency response. Document and report incidents and accidents
  • Administration - Support operational tracking and documentation. Maintain logs, reports, and maintenance records. Track facility usage, events, and operational data. Handle admissions and cash/ticket processes. Update and follow operational procedures and manuals
  • Communication & Customer Service - Ensure positive user experience. Communicate professionally with facility users and stakeholders. Monitor bookings and adjust schedules as needed. Address customer concerns and manage disruptive behavior

As our preferred candidate, you will have:

  • Grade 12 High School diploma or equivalent.

  • AARFP Building Maintenance Level 1

  • AARFP Supervisory Skills Level 1 or equivalent

  • AARFP Arena Operator Level 1 or equivalent (Specific to work area/portfolio)

  • AARFP Swimming Pool Operator Level 1 or equivalent (Specific to work area/portfolio)

  • AARFP Parks and Sportfields Operator Level 1 or equivalent (Specific to work area/portfolio)

  • AARFP Custodial Care or equivalent (Specific to work area/portfolio)

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant supervisory and professional experience performing similar work in recreation facilities. Similar experience in other public or commercial buildings may be considered.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, ‘as-builts’ and technical specifications.

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License.

  • Current Standard First Aid and WHMIS.

  • Training in Occupational Health and Safety management systems preferred.

  • Familiar with all safety, fire, building and other relevant codes.

  • Must be able to be fit tested and successfully wear CSA approved equipment to meet OH&S requirements.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated competency to work with a variety of Windows-based computer systems including computer-controlled building management systems.

  • Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check (completed by The City upon employment).

Remuneration:

$36.65 to $38.58 per hour

Hours of Work:

80 hours biweekly as scheduled. Shifts scheduled for days, evenings, weekends and shift work to meet the needs of the facility.
