We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our team to lead our Halifax technology delivery centre as Head of Shared Services.

Position Overview: The Head of Shared Services will be responsible for overseeing and leading multiple critical functions within the organization, including the running of the Halifax Delivery Centre, this will require the successful candidate to bring together a number of technology units into a cohesive team, with a strong office presence. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong technical background and exceptional leadership skills to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement across these functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy:
  • Develop and implement the strategic vision for the strategic delivery centre in Halifax.
  • Lead and mentor a team of professionals across a wide variety of technology frameworks.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Operate in a matrix management model with your peer group around the broader Axis landscape.
  • Partner and integrate with the nine value streams set up for delivery within BTS:
  • North America Intake & Underwriting
  • North America Product
  • North America Programs Business
  • North America Claims
  • Global Markets Intake
  • Global Markets Policy
  • Reinsurance
  • Pricing and Risk Management
  • Corporate & HR
  • Delegated Business
  • Document Management Shared Service:
  • Manage the document management function to ensure efficient and secure handling of all company documents.
  • Implement and maintain document management systems and processes.
  • Integrations:
  • Lead the integration efforts to ensure seamless connectivity between various systems and applications.
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of integration solutions.
  • User Experience:
  • Champion user experience initiatives to enhance the usability and satisfaction of internal and external users.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement user-centric solutions.
  • Development Center of Excellence (COE):
  • Oversee the Development COE to drive best practices in software development.
  • Ensure the adoption of modern development methodologies and tools.
  • Required Skills
  • Experienced in architecture of low/no code platforms
  • Experience with Azure Integration Services, Functions, Queues, Gateway
  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript, YAML, React/Angular, NPM, JWT, OAuth2
  • Extensive integration experience with:
  • REST APIs
  • PAS – Genius/IRIS/Duck Creek/Guidewire/Majesco
  • GL and financial systems
  • Data warehousing - Snowflake, Databricks
  • Desirable Skills
  • Familiarity with Unqork
  • Experience with MS Dynamics 365
  • Knowledge of OpenAI
  • Proficiency in MongoDB
  • Understanding of GraphQL
  • Experience with Python


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a shared services environment.
  • Strong technical background with expertise in SRE, document management, integrations, user experience, testing, and software development.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and drive operational excellence.
  • Experience in the insurance industry is a plus.
