About the Role


The Hydrogeology & Groundwater Contamination Specialist is a mid-level technical role focused on the assessment, management, and mitigation of groundwater-related risks for major urban transit infrastructure projects in Hamilton, ON, Canada.

This position operates within a multidisciplinary environmental and engineering team, contributing to the planning, investigation, design support, and delivery of groundwater management solutions aligned with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The role supports complex construction activities, including excavation, tunnelling, and dewatering, ensuring groundwater quality and quantity considerations are effectively addressed throughout project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Hydrogeological Assessments & Technical Delivery

  • Review existing investigations, identify data gaps and commitments, and support development of DD&I scope, plans, and schedules.
  • Lead or support field investigations and groundwater assessments related to excavation, tunnelling, and dewatering.
  • Contribute to Hydrogeology Assessment Baseline Reports and interpret data to inform design and construction decisions.

Groundwater Management & Permitting

  • Support development of groundwater management strategies and mitigation measures with the Senior Specialist.
  • Coordinate with field teams, consultants, and multidisciplinary stakeholders to execute groundwater-related work.
  • Assist with preparation of dewatering and groundwater-related approvals in collaboration with the Permitting and Approvals Lead.

What do we need from you


  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Hydrogeology, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Post-graduate degree in Hydrogeology or Engineering is considered an asset.
  • Professional designation as P. Geo. or P. Eng. is required and in good standing.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience of direct relevance to the tasks described, including work on major transportation or linear infrastructure projects (e.g., LRT, rail, transit corridors, highways).
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Hydrogeological investigations and groundwater characterization
    • Groundwater quality and contamination assessments
    • Dewatering design and permitting
    • Groundwater impact assessment for construction activities
  • Experience supporting or leading field investigation programs.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario regulatory frameworks and permitting processes.
