We’re looking for an Ink / Plate Service Technician who will be involved with the preparation of required inks/varnishes for production orders prior to being scheduled to press, as required to maintain service levels and reduce downtime. This individual will be maintaining inventories of inks and consumables, custom ink mixing, ink ordering, colour matching, drawdowns for quality control purposes and collaborate with the Press Operators by plate mounting and troubleshooting ink related issues as required.
This role will work Monday to Friday on day shift (7am-3pm).

We’re looking for an Ink / Plate Service Technician who will be involved with the preparation of required inks/varnishes for production orders prior to being scheduled to press, as required to maintain service levels and reduce downtime. This individual will be maintaining inventories of inks and consumables, custom ink mixing, ink ordering, colour matching, drawdowns for quality control purposes and collaborate with the Press Operators by plate mounting and troubleshooting ink related issues as required.

Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret ink / varnish requirements listed on the production docket contained in the Ink Folder. Identify correct ink line to use based on substrate and or application requirements. Examine sample/copy to estimate coverage for number of and volume of inks needed.
- Ink Mixing: formulate colours using computerized inking system and scale, compare results to Pantone colour chip or match to sample. When needed, assist Press side on ink related issues.
- Preparing ink drawdowns for each ink mix and retaining of ink samples. Monitor colour consistency. Use of Spectrophotometer to measure Delta E.
- For production orders that require large volumes or specialty inks arrange to place an order through our ink vendor(s).
- Completed ink mixes / orders are staged and recorded in the ink copy folder as to inventory location, quantity. Ink folder is then submitted to the label office prior to scheduling to press.
- Monitor ink/varnish usage & inventories, work off ink inventories through colour alteration mixing, ordering blending inks from Supplier. Mount polymer flexo plates on print cylinders when required. Maintain ink room and storage locations in a safe and clean manner. Proper disposal of waste inks.
- Following company policies & OHSA requirements.
- Completion of Secondary School Diploma, with strong math abilities
- 1-2 years of experience working in the print industry, working with ink
- Mechanically inclined with hand/eye coordination to distinguish colours
- Strong knowledge of ink mixing and colour matching
- Previous experience using a QC software and forklift experience is an asset
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs as required
- Flexibility to work Monday to Friday on day shift (7am-3pm), with ability to work overtime as required.
