Our Energy and Process subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking an Instrumentation Technologist/Designer to join our teams located in any of our offices in Alberta, Ontario and Atlantic provinces.

Reporting to the Manager of Instrumentation, you will join a dynamic and growing Process and Energy Electrical Group where you will be responsible to plan, design, implement, and support Instrumentation used in the operation of natural gas pipeline compressor stations, refrigeration plants, oil pump stations and related facilities.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will support P&ID development; maintain the P&ID’s through each project phase; recognize and understand required process control strategies and ensure they are reflected accordingly.
  • You will support Instrumentation index development and completion of Instrumentation datasheets.
  • You will provide engineering support during development or E&I design.
  • You will support development of TIC cost estimates and Engineering/Design effort hour estimates (PSE).
  • You will support proper preparation/checking of engineering calculations, specifications, and requisition packages - verifying content, proper assembly, thorough checking, and issue to project.
  • You will support proper selection of items to be specified or purchased - ensure compliance with client requirements and standards, check specifications and requisition packages.
  • You will interface with suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • You will prepare technical bid evaluations and make recommendations for purchase.
  • You will review vendor data to assure specifications and project requirements are met.


What you'll bring to WSP:

  • Minimum Technical diploma from a reputable post-secondary institution
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role ideally within a consulting environment with a focus on electrical instrumentation
  • Solid understanding and experience with E&I installation requirements along with understanding of impact on construction
  • Experience in heavy industrial project desired - oil and gas experience a definite asset
  • Strong command of AutoCAD
  • Experience with 3D CADD a benefit
