Your Opportunity:
The successful candidate will be responsible for performance of duties in the Client Response department at the University Of Alberta Hospital. Client Response duties include, but are not limited to, responding and documenting client requests for laboratory test information and results. Duties also include performance of urinalysis testing including macroscopic and microscopic examination, maintenance of inventory and supplies and management of report distribution. Additional responsibilities include sorting and matching specimens to requisitions, accessioning requisitions into the laboratory information system, sample distribution, troubleshooting problem specimens. You will be responsible for communicating effectively on an oral and written manner while enhancing relationships with laboratory and non-laboratory personnel.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:You are an organized, independent worker and strong team player committed to providing quality patient care. You are approachable and reliable. You must have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relate information, direction or questions in person, over the phone or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner. In addition, you will have the ability to organize and prioritize tasks while adapting to changing circumstances and interruptions. You must be approachable, flexible, reliable and tactful team member contributing to a positive work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in Urinalysis and/or relevant courses in Urinalysis is an asset. Knowledge of medical terminology is an asset. Previous Lab Client Response experience within the last two years. Working knowledge of Connect Care/Epic.
