Your Opportunity:

The Medical Laboratory Technologist I is a working level position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of diagnostic procedures within the Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Cardiology and Specimen Procurement departments, within the scope of practice of an MLT. Applicants must be able to work independently and perform all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLT from sample collection to testing/resulting in all of the above-mentioned disciplines. Lacombe Hospital is an acute care hospital with a busy emergency department as well as acute care, day surgeries, restorative care, palliative and long-term care departments providing service for the Community and surrounding area. The successful applicant will be required to present to the hospital for callback within 30 minutes.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Laboratory experience includes hematology, expanded chemistry, coagulation and urinalysis including microscopic analysis. Recent cardiology experience including ECGs. Current phlebotomy experience including venipuncture, micropuncture, blood culture and Type and Screen on all ages and patient types. Proven interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required. Excellent public relations and a service-oriented manner are essential. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, inter-disciplinary team members and personnel from other departments in a fast-paced and changing environment. Proven analytic and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, logical/methodical work habits, and demonstrated ability to work independently are required. Candidate must be well organized and flexible.

Preferred Qualifications:

Connect Care Epic, Unity Real Time, WellSky, MUSE and TIMS experience and knowledge is preferred. Minimum 2 years' experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Familiar with Ortho Vitros XT 3400, DxH 600, Clinitek Advantus, Access 2 and ACL Elite Pro instruments.
