Position Information

Join our dynamic team at the University of Ottawa Medical Associates (UMA) in the position of Lead, Finance and Planning. This role offers an exciting opportunity to utilize your skills and experience in finance in a collaborative position. You will be reporting to the Head/Chair of the Department of Medicine (DoM)and work closely with the administration team to oversee the department's financial budget and manage its reporting systems. By working with both internal and external partners, you will help with budgeting, forecasting, ad-hoc reporting, and analysis to support planning and decision-making.

Rotation/Shifts

Days, 8 hour shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial planning and analysis services such as budgeting, management reporting, general financial support, and forecasting;
  • Analyze financial data and provide information and recommendations to leadership for use in planning and management decisions;
  • Build comprehensive financial models and reporting systems;
  • Monitor actual revenue and expenses against the budget and assist with preparing departmental, team, and portfolio financial reports as directed;
  • Prepare and assist in annual and regular reviewing of the budgets and financial reporting with leadership;
  • Provides ad hoc financial analysis of contracts;
  • Monitor and track sources and uses of multiple funds;
  • Develop and maintain a clear understanding of the financial challenges, processes, and regulations affecting the finances of the DoM and physician partnerships;
  • Act as a resource and coach leaders to enhance their financial understanding and support informed decision-making.


Basic Requirements

  • University degree in Commerce/Finance/ Accounting or recognized equivalent or combination of education and work experience;
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation;
  • Minimum 8-10 years recent experience in in a complex environment with exposure to a range of financial reporting principles, practices and procedures, with minimum 3 years recent experience in financial data analysis, financial forecasting, and reporting, interpretation and tracking financial metrics;
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office 365, specifically with Excel;
  • Experience using electronic accounting systems;
  • Strong analytical skills including relating operational and financial data, summarizing complex information;
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of professional judgement in an objective and effective manner;
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to adjust priorities as required to meet deadlines;
  • Experience leading meetings, presenting proposals, analyses, results, and interpretation;
  • Experience preparing briefing notes, reports, policy documents and delivering effective presentations;
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information;
  • Initiative, dedication, tact and diplomacy;
  • Well-developed decision-making, analytical, problem-solving, and judgement skills;
  • Effective communicator with a consultative approach to develop trust and ability to foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through previous management, supervisory, or team leader experience is a strong asset;
  • Proficiency in speaking and comprehending both English and French (B+) is an asset.
