Purpose:
The Manager Financial Systems (MFS) is responsible for overseeing both operational and strategic aspects of projects related to the financial systems at York. They serve as the primary owner of business applications such as Peoplesoft Finance, Concur, Sm@rtbuy, AR system, and the new budget system. This role involves leading and providing expertise for maintenance, development, and project initiatives, including tasks like business process mapping, analysis, and specification of requirements. Successful execution of these responsibilities is crucial for driving operational excellence, managing change, improving processes, and ensuring top-notch client support. The MFS fulfills a unique role combining the skills of an IT expert, finance professional, and project manager, overseeing process improvement projects from start to finish.

Education:
Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline, such as business, finance, Information Technology, Technology Management, Operations Research, or Systems Design.
CPA, CA, CMA,CGA Professional Designation in good standing required

Experience:
5 years of related experience.
Progressive functional experience in project management, process improvement initiatives and change management initiatives.
Experience in supporting large end-to-end cross-functional process excellence/ improvement initiatives.
Experience gathering requirements and documenting Business Requirement Documentation (BRD).
Experience in identifying functional Service Delivery optimization opportunities.
Experience with financial statement close process.
Experience with development of financial reports including identification of user needs.
Experience working with Financial Systems.
Experience in applying project and agile management methodologies, tools, and best practices.

Skills:
Knowledge
Knowledge of Lean Green Belt principles and practices.
Knowledge of priorities and political trends in higher education.
Knowledge of finance and procurement policies and procedures.
Understanding the impacts and implications of working in a unionized environment.
Familiarity with University academic priorities, vision of service excellence, and service excellence principles.
Familiarity with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
Practical understanding of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).
Understanding of functional operation processes.
Knowledge of 'Lean' or six sigma process/thinking.
Understanding of both the Deferral and Restricted Fund method.
Knowledge of Public Sector Procurement Policy.

Proficient project management skills based on the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge).

  • Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
