LHSC delivers both local and regional services, including the Children’s Hospital, within a large geographic area. LHSC is known for its great people and great care, with a workforce of close to 15,000, dedicated to delivering the highest quality patient care while partnering with communities to transform health, one life at a time.

Molecular Imaging / Nuclear Medicine is a branch of Medical Imaging that uses radioactive material to diagnose and determine the severity of or treat a variety of diseases. Because these procedures can pinpoint molecular activity within the body, they can identify disease in its earliest stages and a patient's immediate response to therapeutic interventions.

Depending on the type of exam, the radiotracer is either injected into the body, swallowed or inhaled as a gas and eventually accumulates in the organ or area of the body being examined. Radioactive emissions from the radiotracer are detected by a special camera or imaging device that produces pictures. The innovative LHSC Theranostics division also offers therapeutic procedures that use therapeutic amounts of radioactive material to treat cancer and other medical conditions.
