Salary Range: $42.92 - $58.49 per hour

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Director of Security, the Manager, Security Operations is responsible for overseeing security operations on the Fredericton campus, Crime Prevention initiatives and Traffic Operations for UNB. The Manager also oversees the UNB camera network, liaises with the vendor and ensures interoperability between campuses.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Security Office on the Fredericton campus and ensure effective service delivery across campus locations.
  • Coordinate staff scheduling, approve leave and overtime, and supervise Patrol Supervisors, patrol staff, the Traffic Supervisor, and the Crime Prevention Officer.
  • Support recruitment by participating in the evaluation and selection of new team members.
  • Develop and implement security plans for graduation ceremonies, special events, dignitary visits, protests, and other campus activities.
  • Oversee the security of university buildings and assets on and off campus, including facilities associated with the National Research Council Canada (NRC) and St. Thomas University.
  • Lead security operations during emergencies and crises and provide site management support during the Director of Security's absence, as required.
  • Oversee security incident response and investigations, ensure compliance with university policies and procedures, preserve evidence, and prepare documentation to support disciplinary processes where appropriate.
  • Review occurrence reports and security records to ensure documentation is accurate, complete, consistent, and meets departmental standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational performance and provide coaching or recommend training to address knowledge and skill gaps.
  • Notify appropriate university stakeholders of significant security incidents and serve as the primary liaison with municipal police and other emergency response partners.
  • Serve as a primary contact for security services and provide expert advice to students, faculty, staff, visitors, and university leaders on security, emergency preparedness, and risk mitigation.
  • Represent the Security department on committees and at meetings requiring security expertise and operational input.
  • Maintain and oversee security systems and programs across the Fredericton and Moncton campuses, and ensure interoperability with the Saint John campus.
  • Manage the campus camera network, including identifying coverage gaps, coordinating equipment installation, and overseeing maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Administer key control, electronic door access permissions, security records, and Fredericton-specific emergency notifications through the mass notification platform.
  • Oversee the operation of electronic parking infrastructure and collaborate with internal partners and vendors to maintain parking enforcement and the electronic bike registry.
  • Manage the Fredericton Security operating budget within delegated signing authority and ensure sound financial stewardship.
  • Plan and coordinate procurement activities for equipment, supplies, uniforms, and other operational requirements.
  • Manage routine departmental purchasing, monitor overtime expenditures, allocate financial resources to support operational priorities, and develop annual funding proposals for security initiatives and infrastructure enhancements.

What You Bring

  • Post Secondary Training in a related field.
  • 5+ years experience in emergency planning and/or emergency management
  • 3+ years of progressive supervisory or management experience
  • A combination of education and training may be considered.

Additional Strengths

  • Experience in a security-related field is considered an asset.
  • Experience with budget management is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in high-pressure and emergency situations.
  • Proven ability to mediate disputes, build team consensus, and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
