Job Description

Join our team as a Mechanical Engineering Student and gain hands-on experience supporting our Senior HVAC/Chilled Water Engineer on complex marine platform projects, including the Canadian Coast Guard AOPS and River Class Destroyer programs.

In this role, you’ll assist with the integration of combat equipment into platform design, contribute to the creation and review of technical documentation, and support the assessment of design requirements and Object Quality Evidence (OQE). You’ll also collaborate with sub-contractors and key stakeholders, building valuable skills in systems integration, quality assurance, and project coordination, all while working alongside experienced professionals in a dynamic, real-world engineering environment.

As an added perk, Irving Shipbuilding will cover co‑op fees up to $1,000.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision intermediate and senior engineers to support development of technical drawings.
  • Work with intermediate and senior engineers to develop solutions to production issues requiring engineering support.
  • Meet with Shipyard subcontractors to ensure alignment and delivery of quality technical data to support development of ship design.
  • Meet with the Customer to align and develop the functional ship design as well work to address areas of Customer concern.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year Engineering degree program.
  • 0-2 years’ experience.
  • Experience with 3D model viewers consider an asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, openness to learning.
  • Skilled in organizing and managing a variety of tasks with varying priorities and is a fast learner and effective problem solver.
  • Interest in shipbuilding, defense, or marine industry and a desire to join an exciting, fast-paced organization.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
