Who are we looking for?

We have an outstanding leadership opportunity for an Ontario Design Hub EDO (Engineering Design Organization) Engineering Manager! This role will be based in one of our Greater Toronto Offices or our Waterloo office in our Ontario region.

As the EDO Design Hub EM (Engineering Manager), you will lead our established Ontario Design Hub while working closely with the Ontario EDO BGL (Business Group Leader) to deliver design projects for various Markets and Businesses. You will also support bids and proposals to help develop and grow GHD’s presence and market share in the delivery of engineering and design services. You will also provide leadership in developing and delivering a range of design projects and leading and mentoring a team of engineers, architects, and technical specialists. The EDO Design Hub EM has a proven background in running multi-discipline design operations of 100 staff or more. They are an established leader in leading Discipline Managers and Teams to resource project teams and deliver design elements on projects.

Working on a diverse range of projects with a diverse range of clients, your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting in developing and supporting business opportunities, and ensuring sustainable growth of the EDO Ontario Design Hub
• Assisting the Ontario EDO BGL in meeting Business Group performance, people, and resources goals
• Being well-connected and influential, building and developing relationships with EDO Regional Leadership Team and supporting relationships with existing and potential clients and partners, with a focus on engineering and design delivery using our design hub resources.
• Providing leadership to the Design Hub Operation in line with GHD’s values and objectives
• Building effective relationships with Design Hub Team Leaders and the Regional EDO Business Group Leader.
  
  

List of key accountabilities:

• Provide oversight of design project execution in the Ontario Design Hub. Provide support to the EDO BGL and other EMs and set delivery priorities, as necessary, to ensure the appropriate amount of technical and project delivery leadership is in place on projects being executed in the design hub in accordance with the Regional strategic plan.
• Support work-sharing planning between all EDO Regions
• Support Chile work-sharing and maintain and grow Direct Workshare staff supporting the design hub.
• Be an advocate and assist in making the EDO platform meet expectations and be accountable in meeting project as-bid metrics.
• Ensure that projects are bid using appropriate EDO staff to develop scopes and LOE components of the bid.
• Ensure that design packages that are to be executed are properly scoped and budgeted and that they have endorsed Workplans and follow our Quality Management Systems.
• Ensure that the delivery of projects in the design hub portfolio result in:
• Superior Client Service with respect to adhering to the contracted scope, and schedule.
• Sound Technical Quality
• Strong Financial Performance
• Support the EDO BGL in managing the Ontario regional EDO to meet annual financial, operational, and strategic metrics as a part of the overall success of the Business and the Enterprise.
• Contribute to building the HSE and Quality culture within the Design Hub and EDO BG. Assist the EDO BGL in workforce planning (includes Resource Planning Tool review). Contribute to succession planning, building staff capabilities in technical and leadership areas across the Region. Asist with hiring and support Talent Acquisition to ensure we hire the staff with the necessary skills. Ensure internal and external education and training is carried out in the Design Hub.
• Travel to and connect with the EDO staff in Design Hub offices within the Region to ensure leadership visibility and communications are maintained.
  
  

What you will bring to the table:

• Minimum 15 years of professional experience in engineering consulting preferred
• Demonstrated technical capability across your area of technical expertise, including all project phases from project planning to detailed design and construction services
• Effective & proven project delivery, networking, and relationship management skills
• Ability to develop lasting internal and external relationships based on trust and delivery excellence
• Proven background in delivering projects from proposal to completion in a design hub operation
• Proven background of managing multi-disciplined design delivery organizations
• Detailed knowledge of several types of delivery methods for various markets
• Ability to mentor and train team members
