Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for working in a dedicated capacity supporting both the South Bruce and Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). This role will be embedded in an OPP detachment within Grey and Bruce Counties (Wiarton, Chatsworth, Kincardine/Walkerton) and will respond with uniform officers to assist with de-escalation, community referrals, diversion, and appropriate facilitation of transition to acute care where required to help ensure positive outcomes for the individual. The RN will also act as a resource to officers, as necessary.
This role will include duties and responsibilities specific to both live calls with police, as well as referral-based follow-up support to individuals and caregivers/family members, and system navigation/service coordination, as well as support for short-term (transitional) case management services.
This position involves shift work, specifically days/evenings and requires travel within the catchment area of Grey and Bruce Counties, either co-responding in a personal vehicle or riding in a police vehicle.

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications
Required
- Registration with the Ontario College of Nurses as a Registered Nurse
- CNA Certification in Psychiatry and Mental Health Nursing
- Minimum 5 years recent experience working in the community with individuals with significant mental health needs and substance use disorders
- Must be able to pass Level 4 Security Clearance (OPP)
- Excellent knowledge of community resources in Grey and Bruce Counties
- Knowledge of a range of crisis prevention and intervention approaches including: crisis prevention strategies, crisis planning, safety planning, crisis intervention, risk assessment, relapse prevention strategies, crisis services and hospital services
- Basic computer skills
- Analytical and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle and respect confidential information with tact and diplomacy are essential
- P.I. training up to date
- P.R. – basic certification
- Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting
- Experience with law enforcement/corrections is an asset
- Bilingual in both official languages is an asset
- Able to work all shifts
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
