Department Overview

The Small Business Banking Risk strategy team is responsible for the development, monitoring and execution of credit risk strategies and initiatives that will assist our business partners in achieving growth and profitability while supplying effective challenge to maintain the overall risk quality of our lending portfolios.

Job Description

As a Risk Manager, you will be leading the design, development, implementation and monitoring of the credit automation strategies (acquisition, offers, and account management) for Small Business (SBB) products. Strategy design plays an important role in SBB business performance, and the successful candidate will be responsible for developing, communicating, and recommending changes to improve & enhance decision strategies. This role will also provide effective challenge and ownership and execution of credit risk initiatives related to the SBB portfolio. You will work closely with internal Risk partners such Model Development, Model Validation amongst others, as well as the product and technology areas.

Key Accountabilities Include:

  • Design, develop and implement credit automation strategies (acquisition, offers, and account management)
  • Support automation strategy management, monitoring, testing and verification
  • Provide effective challenge to SBB line of business counterparts
  • Analyse large set of data and conduct simulation analysis
  • Develop innovative business ideas and methods in the strategy design process
  • Play a leading role in coordinating interactions and initiatives with stakeholders and partner teams
  • Provide guidance and support to team members with business knowledge and technical capabilities
  • Monitor portfolio health and raise insights to management and line of business
  • Drive forward and take ownership of planning for strategic long-term initiatives
  • Support regulator and audit requests

Job Requirements

This role requires a combination of technical skills, project management, business knowledge and interpersonal skills

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong ownership mentality and can-do attitude
  • Flexibility and resilience to execute in an agile environment, including the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Ability to influence successful outcomes with key stakeholders and senior management
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Strong presentation and communication skills

Technical Skills:

  • High Proficiency in Python, SAS, SQL, and Tableau, or a demonstrated ability to quickly learn new languages and platforms (a must to be successful in the role)
  • prior experience in machine learning would be considered an asset
  • High Proficiency in MS Office: Excel (Pivot tables and etc.), Word and PowerPoint
  • Computer programming background (i.e. Visual basic, C or other) is an asset

Business Knowledge:

  • Credit Risk Management Experience in a financial institution or similar is a strong asset
  • Ability to provide effective challenge to key business partners and stakeholders
  • Understanding of retail credit products, policies and processes, SBB or Commercial experience is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills

Education and

Accreditation

  • Post-secondary degree is required (preferably in a quantitative field: i.e. Maths, Statistics, Science, Computer Science or similar).
  • A Master’s Degree is an asset.
