Reporting to the Senior Director, FS, QA, AW & CS, the Senior Quality Assurance Manager (Audit Programs) will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Quality Assurance Internal Audit Programs (Brampton, Mississauga, and DC), oversight and review of internal audit programs at EVP/Nadeau, primary contact with all Auditing certification bodies across Holdco, and single point of contact for audit related concerns with all Holdco plants/DC.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Responsible for Food Safety, Quality, Animal welfare, Customer specific (raised with Antibiotics/grain fed as example) related internal audits across Holdco and lead second and third-party audits in Ontario, providing necessary documentation as requested.
  • Complete unannounced audits at both the EVP/Nadeau sites as scheduled.
  • Coordinate and drive with the Plant Operations and related departments to BRC readiness everyday as strategically the company objective is to be BRC unannounced every year going forward.
  • Re-assess, expand the current audit program to review and monitor business activities throughout the company through the developed detail audits and along with the direct reports. Primary areas for continuous review will remain be the elements relating to Food Safety; Quality (BRC) & Animal Welfare programs but is being expanded to other departments as the internal risk assessment is completed. This will include scheduling, issuing non-conformities and complete follow-ups to internal MLF, customer, legal and third-party audit requirements.
  • Provide ongoing tracking and reports about the internal audit performance (BRC readiness) and compliance to the program to the Director- Food Safety, Quality Performance, Animal Welfare & Customer Relations, and other Senior Executives as required 6. Lead the required traceability exercises as required by schedule and customer requirements for the Ontario sites.
  • Assess and react to immediate safety concerns, including product withdrawals and recalls including updates to certification bodies and key customers. Follows up to implement preventive measures as required 8. Site responsibility or pest control and goose management oversight of the Brampton plant with third party contractor.
  • Provide assistance (aid)/support to QA Manager – Quality Performance/Co-Manufacturers and performs co-manufacturer and supplier approval audits and follow up visits as required.
  • Perform analysis on MLF set objectives and analyzes key metrics (e.g., customer and consumer complaints, credit notes, non-conformities) to ensure that goals set are achieved. Identify and share potential continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Support the customer and consumer complaints process and respond to all complaints issued by CFIA. Function as a lead investigator in follow-ups to critical customer and consumer complaints if required.
  • People Management: a. Provides overall management of a team or business area and includes management of individuals indirectly through subordinate supervisors or managers. b. Establish goals and priorities and manage the activities and work of subordinates Evaluate their performance by providing formal and informal feedback to ensure that all work within a specific area is conducted in an efficient manner and in accordance c. Responsible for all aspects of Human Resources functions for team including hiring, onboarding, performance management and disciplinary matters. d. Develop team capabilities through continue on-the-job and formal training opportunities and coaching.
  • Budgeting: a. Prepare, recommend, and manage a budget for the direct area of responsibility by conducting analysis and preparing data to support requested budget. b. Monitor the financial performance of area of responsibility against approved budget so that areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified and rectified promptly, and potential performance improvement opportunities are capitalized on.
  • Policies, Processes & Procedures a. Adhere/comply with company policies and procedures. b. Recommend, develop, and implement enhancements and improvements to departmental policies and procedures. c. Ensure that all employees under position leadership, follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is conducted in a controlled and consistent manner.

What You Will Bring

  • Seven to ten years of experience working in an auditing role related to quality assurance and/or animal welfare in the food manufacturing industry (preferably in meat and a unionized environment performing from an auditing perspective);
  • Working knowledge of food and meat plant regulatory standards (CFIA, etc.), GMP, HACCP, BRC, food safety, food quality, etc.;
  • Working knowledge of knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS, and all other workplace H&S regulations;
  • Ability to work / excel in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential;
  • Knowledge of process improvement tools.
  • General Computer Skills (e.g., MS Office) Education and Certification Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Scientific or Technical field required.
  • MPIP (Modernized Poultry Inspection Program).
