MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Procurement Specialist for a 12-month contract opportunity based on-site in Burnaby, BC with one of our public-sector utility clients. This contract position is responsible for leading medium- to high-complexity sourcing and category management initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to manage RFPs, vendor negotiations, contract transitions, and supplier relationships—ensuring all procurement activities align with public-sector policies and free trade agreements.


Key Responsibilities


  • Develop and implement category and sourcing strategies for capital-project and infrastructure categories
  • Lead multi-stage RFPs, vendor negotiations, and contract awards/extensions
  • Provide expert advice on category-management best practices, public-sector procurement policies, and competitive-bid law
  • Drive supplier-relationship management: resolve escalated contract issues, monitor performance, and report to stakeholders
  • Facilitate decision-making with data-driven analysis, market research, and risk assessments
  • Mentor and guide evaluation teams; potentially oversee procurement analysts and support staff
  • Identify and implement business-process improvements within the sourcing function


Must-Have Qualifications


  • 8+ years progressive supply-chain, sourcing, or category-management experience—ideally in complex or Crown-corporation environments
  • Proven track record with Canadian government procurements that incorporate free-trade agreements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent, plus one of:
  • SCMP, ISM, PMP, or CPA designation
  • Enrollment in an advanced business degree (e.g., MBA)
  • Completion of a related continuing-education program
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, project-management, and analytical skills


Assets


  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Experience in construction or heavy equipment procurement
  • Ability to draft customized contract provisions
