Your Opportunity:
The Service Worker is responsible for contributing to safe patient care and efficiency to units within the Surgery In-Patient program and elsewhere as directed. The Service Worker is responsible for properly maintaining and handling hospital equipment, supply ordering and monitoring, and handling/portering specimens throughout the Hospital. The Service Worker is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of equipment as well as restocking supplies and linen. The Service Worker plays a key role in supporting clinic functions and patient care. The incumbent plays an integral role in Infection Prevention by maintaining cleanliness of equipment, supplies and unit in accordance with Infection Prevention Standards. Must maintain a courteous and helpful approach with other team members, families and patients. The incumbent must utilize initiative and judgment in performing duties. Physical demands of the job involve periods of physical activity such as standing, bending, twisting, walking, and lifting weights up to 25 kg.
Description:
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Excellent communication skills - fluency in speaking/reading/writing English. Ability to use computer. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time as well as push/lift/pull moderate to heavy objects. Reliable and cooperative, with demonstrated effective customer service skills. Experience in hospital setting required. WHMIS and current CPR is required. Current BCLS - HCP Certification required. (Must be Heart and Stroke Standards HCP Level C taken within last 12 months.) Demonstrated organizational, communication & interpersonal skills. Must be reliable, cooperative and demonstrate effective service attitude and professionalism. Ability to function both independently and as a team member in an interdisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with supply management. Experience in in-patient surgical units. Recent Service Worker experience is preferred with a preference given to applicants with at least one year of recent experience. Medicine or Surgery Program experience. Medical Terminology preferred. Prior knowledge of medical equipment & supplies preferred. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention preferred.
