South Peace Elementary
South Peace Elementary is a rural school located approximately 45 minutes north of Dawson Creek in the Farmington area and is situated within a Hutterite Colony. It is a unique two-room school educating Hutterite Colony students from Grades 1 to 9 whose first language is German. The German teacher, who is from the Hutterite community, starts German school at 8:00 am. Regular public school education begins at 9:00 am until 2:45pm. All students take on a variety of roles and responsibilities within the school and on the colony. Some of the students help translate and others complete chores as required in the school.
We are seeking teachers to be a part of our team.
The ideal teacher candidate begins with students at the heart of their practice; teaching the learner, not just the curriculum. They create inclusive classrooms where students of all abilities feel valued, supported, and challenged. We are seeking teachers who are open-minded professionals who collaborate, reflect, and continuously learn to improve their craft. Grounded in research-based practice and guided by care, they strive to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.

- Currently enrolled in and working towards a Master’s program in Inclusive Education and Library Science/studies or related
- Completed a diploma or certificate in Inclusive Education and Library Science/studies or related
- Currently enrolled in and working towards a diploma or certificate in Inclusive Education and Library Science/studies or related
- Willing to enroll in and begin a Master’s degree in Inclusive Education and Library Science/studies or related upon acceptance of the position
- Willing to enroll in and begin a diploma or certificate in Inclusive Education and Library Science/studies or related upon acceptance of the position
- Willing to engage in coursework or training in this area

Required Qualifications And Experience
- Hold, or be qualified for, a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate
- Successful K-12 teacher training and practicum or evaluation documentation
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Experience with adapting, and modifying, curriculum to meet the needs of students
- Ability to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with diverse needs
- Strong classroom management skills
- Experience working with students who display a variety of behaviours
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Willingness to work and implement school initiatives and goals
- Capacity to work independently and in collaboration with a team
- Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
- Experience teaching in a multiage group setting
- Engages in fair, student focused assessment practices consistent with the BC curriculum and reporting order, and reflects on evidence of learning to guide instruction

Benefits In Working For School District No. 59
- Relocation Allowance: Up to $5,000 for out of district applicants (with submission of approved receipts)
- Northern Travel Allowance: A Great Benefit at Tax Time! An amount of up to $4,000 of the salary paid to the employee shall be designated as a Northern Allowance Travel benefit. This allowance shall be in effect within the guidelines of Revenue Canada as they exist and are changed by Revenue Canada from year to year and shall end when the Revenue Canada program ends. Regular part time employees’ allowance will be prorated proportionate to the hours worked
- Remote and Rural Allowance: Teachers working in School District No. 59 are eligible to receive a remote and rural allowance, which is both an adjustment to the salary grid and an annual allowance of approximately $3,035* per FTE. Teachers on call (TOCs) are not eligible to receive this allowance
- The annual allowance may increase as defined within the Collective Agreement with the British Columbia Teachers Federation.
Effective December 31, 2025 School District No. 59 teachers are eligible for the for up to $30,000.
