Job Summary

The Staff Accountant will support the accounting team in executing core financial operations that align with the company’s strategic objectives. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reconciliations and reports, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and accounting standards. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in driving efficiency, accuracy, and consistency across financial operations while gaining foundational experience in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts by accurately processing financial transactions in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
• Prepare and submit weekly and monthly financial reports under the direction of the Controller, supporting accurate financial analysis and business decision- making
• Assist the Controller with the month- end and year- end closing processes, including the preparation of monthly working papers and year-end audit schedules to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
• Update and maintain financial databases to ensure accuracy, consistency and completeness of financial data
• Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile account balances, compile trial balances, and maintain the integrity of the general ledger
• Calculate, prepare, and file government remittance in compliance with legislative requirements, including income tax, sales tax and workers’ compensation
• Record incoming cash receipts, process bank deposits, and manage the petty cash fund in accordance with internal controls
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations for multiple business divisions, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly
• Collaborate and provide relevant financial data and documentation to external accountants and auditors

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education required, degree in Accounting or Business Administration or relevant field preferred
• Foundational knowledge of core accounting concepts and financial reporting
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word), is essential
• Strong analytical and sound decision-making skills, with the ability to perform effectively in high-pressure or fast-paced environments
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
• Results-driven and self-motivated with the ability to independently manage tasks and adapt to changing priorities

Work Environment

• Hours of work may vary depending on business needs; flexibility required; ability and willingness to travel; must hold a valid passport with no travel restrictions
• Role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
