At the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), we're looking for a Statistical Analyst to join our dynamic Psychometrics and Data Science team. Reporting to the Manager, you’ll play a critical role in supporting our operational, research, and project initiatives. This is more than just crunching numbers—it’s about helping shape the future of healthcare in Canada.
What You’ll Do
- Work both independently and collaboratively to support operational and research activities.
- Conduct routine and ad-hoc analysis for examination processing, scoring, and quality assurance.
- Perform statistical and psychometric analysis, provide summaries in reports, tables, and graphs, and deliver written and oral interpretations of findings to psychometricians.
- Identify trends, detect irregularities, investigate issues and underlying causes, and develop solutions and improvements.
- Apply advanced understanding of research questions and requirements to implement appropriate statistical models.
- Create, update, and maintain scoring system code and other analytical tools.
- Develop and update complex Python, SAS, and SQL code to support statistical analysis.
- Design, construct, and manage databases to ensure robust data infrastructure.
- Automate report generation
- Understand and translate business requirements into practical specifications, leveraging analytical skills to address business needs and inquiries.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance scoring systems to support accurate and efficient assessment processes.
What you need to succeed
- 3-5 years’ experience in data analysis, reporting, and utilizing advanced statistical analytics techniques.
- Demonstrated experience with statistical inference and statistical modeling (e.g., regression models, clustering, factor analysis) using Python or SAS. Experience with machine learning algorithms is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with interpreting data and analyzing results using statistical techniques, developing processes of data cleaning and preparation, and assessing data quality.
- Experience with developing and maintaining databases.
- Experience with automating reports and other forms of data visualization.
- Experience with documenting code and procedures.
- Proficiency in Python programming (data extraction, data wrangling, analysis, visualization).
- Proficiency in SAS programming (standard SAS procedures including PROC SQL, PROC
- Report, PROC SGPLOT and SAS Macros) to conduct analysis and generate customized reports.
- Proficiency in developing complex and customized SQL queries for relational databases.
- Knowledge of research and measurement principles and procedures.
- Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Microsoft Power BI) is an asset.
- Experience with collaborating on writing research reports and publications is an asset.
- High attention-to-detail and excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple changing priorities under pressure and while working to deadlines
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Ability to learn efficiently
- Masters in statistics, mathematics, educational measurement, psychometrics, psychology, quantitative methodologies or equivalent
- SAS Certified Professional Advanced Programming is considered an asset
- Advanced oral and written skills in English are required, with oral and written skills in French considered an asset
