From fabrication and modularization to new builds, turnaround and maintenance, Aecon Construction Solutions (ACSI) leads the way in industrial construction and water infrastructure, providing clients with vertically integrated solutions and exceptional self-perform work.
Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Structural Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that structural construction activities are completed safely, on schedule, in compliance with contract requirements and job cost estimates, and to the highest standards of quality and workmanship. This role oversees structural steel erection, prefabricated structures, and related structural installations on industrial construction projects.
Please note: This is a site-based position supporting projects across Western Canada.

What You'll Do Here
- Participate in bid review processes to validate constructability, labour productivity, and structural scope requirements.
- Lead field execution of structural scopes including steel erection, bolting, welding coordination, and installation of structural systems.
- Review and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications to ensure work is executed accurately.
- Oversee rigging, hoisting, and crane activities related to structural installations and heavy lifts.
- Ensure proper alignment, plumbness, and leveling of all structural components to engineering tolerances.
- Coordinate installation of structural systems including platforms, stairways, railings, monorails, equipment supports, and miscellaneous steel.
- Monitor inspection and quality control processes related to structural installations, including connections, welding, and bolting.
- Work with EHS representatives to implement and enforce site-specific safety programs and Aecon’s zero-injury culture.
- Act as the construction lead in collaboration with Project Management, Engineering, Quality, Labour Relations, and Project Controls teams.
- Interface with clients and stakeholders to provide updates and resolve structural-related issues.
- Develop and manage detailed construction and look-ahead schedules, aligning labour, equipment, and materials with project needs.
- Identify project risks and collaborate with the project team on mitigation strategies.
- Manage scope changes and support change management related to structural work activities.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and union labour to ensure efficient execution of structural scopes.
- Mentor and develop forepersons, journeypersons, and apprentices while fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Minimum 5+ years of on-site construction experience with a focus on structural steel or structural scopes.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or superintendent-level role on industrial construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel erection, rigging, and installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Experience coordinating crane operations, heavy lifts, and complex structural installations.
- Working knowledge of structural quality control and inspection requirements (bolting, welding, alignment).
- Trade certification (e.g., Ironworker) or equivalent experience is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing craft labour.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple work fronts in fast-paced environments.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
