The Tiburon Technical Art team is a dedicated group of Technical Artists and Managers specializing in American football titles like Madden, College Football, and other projects. We work closely with our game teams to deliver concepts, characters, lighting, tech art, VFX, and immersive worlds. Our collaboration extends to central EA teams—such as Animation, Rigging, Capture, and Audio—and external partners. We at EA Sports Tiburon Technical Art, craft remarkable characters and environments. Our diverse team is unified through collaboration, culture, and craft, focusing on creating exceptional American football experiences.

The Technical Art team combines creativity and imagination with technical expertise. Technical Artists are the bridge between artists, engineers, and designers, and are responsible for data design and art production workflow. They have the capability to understand the nuances of art creation and technical code. They demonstrate technical proficiency in basic 3D concepts and have experience in both art and programming.

Your Responsibilities

The Technical Art Director is a lead and people manager position within the Technical Art team. As a TAD, your mission is to direct, define, design and implement efficient, high-quality content production workflows, technologies, and visuals for our EA SPORTS team. As a contributor, you are an expert in the technical art field, with main responsibilities including content production workflows, tools, pipelines, asset optimization, visual scripting/logic ("schematics") and shader development.

Technical Art Directors are expected to assume ownership over any technical issues that arise on the product and bring them to resolution. This will include delegation to, and empowerment of, senior, intermediate, and junior Technical Art staff on the team. You can be from an Art, Design, Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science background; however, you must demonstrate a comfort level in working with both art and science. The Technical Art Director reports to our Senior Technical Art Director.

Your Experience

  • At least 6+ years of games production experience. You have completed more than 3 AAA games/movies.
  • Experience leading teams of 5+ people.
  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a related field.
  • Effective communication between different audiences such as art, engineering, and production.
  • Proficient scripting/programming in python and C#. (C++ is a plus, but is not required).
  • Expert knowledge of 2D and 3D art packages. Maya and Photoshop required. Houdini/Substance Designer a plus.
  • A solutions-provider, especially as it pertains to developing techniques to meet quality targets within technical constraints.
  • Experience with asset optimization challenges/techniques.
  • A willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new problems; the ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations.

Compensation And Benefits

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

PAY RANGES

  • British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) * $133,400 - $193,200 CAD

In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
