Job Description

Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! The Successful Candidate Will

  • Perform load-ins and load-outs as necessary, including setting up technical equipment from the theatre and rented equipment; assists with providing technical support to theatre users.
  • Respond to enquiries/questions/concerns/complaints from user groups and directs them to Assistant Theatre Technician or Theatre Technical Coordinator if necessary.
  • Responsible for setting up the lobby for events (including tables and chairs) to the floorplans provided and restoring the lobby to its standard configuration at the end of the event.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with departmental and corporate objectives.

Job Requirements

  • Formal academic training in theatre technical direction and/or radio/TV production and/or Audio/Visual training or related experience an asset.
  • Current holder of First Aid and CPR-C certification.
  • Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing and reliable vehicle for corporate business.
  • Working knowledge of health and safety guidelines as set out in the 2nd Edition of “Safety Guidelines for the Live Performance Industry in Ontario.”
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff, the general public, user groups and volunteers.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times during the day.
  • Ability to work in the heat and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Availability/flexibility to work evenings/weekends.

Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification
