What- the Role:

On behalf of our client, Swim Recruiting is seeking a new Vice President of Finance who will lead accounting and financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, and financial operations for this complex and growing company. The VP Finance will report directly to the CFO and will manage and mentor several managers in accounting & finance who in turn lead their respective functional teams.


The VP will spearhead process improvements for the overall accounting & finance function, contribute to strategic business decision support, provide operational oversight, and lead a high-performance team. We are seeking a VP Finance who can keep in mind the business strategy and the big picture while keeping on top of the day-to-day operations of their team. The VP Finance will take part in a great deal of cross-departmental collaboration (sales, marketing, R&D, procurement, operations, human resources, etc.).


A high-performance VP Finance who aligns well with the company’s culture and values will be able to develop their career in tandem with the company’s growth. The VP Finance will contribute positively to an engaged, agile, innovative, and solutions-oriented corporate culture. The VP of Finance and their team will use a sophisticated ERP, a CRM for data extraction, Power BI, plenty of Excel, and a few other data visualization, BI, and AI tools.

Who- the Candidate:

We are looking for a senior finance professional who is an excellent mentor and coach, business savvy, and a great relationship builder. Qualified candidates will have at least 12 years of relevant and progressive accounting & finance work experience, including a few years at VP level (or perhaps at Senior Director level, depending on scope and complexity of role and company). Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, non-verbal/in-person) are crucial in this role. We are looking for someone who can build meaningful, trusting, and valuable business relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders- whether or not that person knows how to read the general ledger or a financial model.

  • Leadership- We are seeking a proven finance leader who has directly managed an accounting & finance team of at least 10 people, including at least 2 direct reports in management.
  • Education & Qualifications-
  • CPA designation is required.
  • Other qualifications such as CFA designation or MBA is a significant asset.
  • Work experienceworking in a complex, fast-paced, and multi-entity business.
  • Work experience in technology sector is VERY highly preferred. If not, must have experience in a similar high-change, fast-paced, and innovative industry.
  • Training in a national or international public practice firm is preferred.
  • Global scope highly preferred (the Americas, Asia, Europe, etc.)
  • Systems
  • Hands-on experience using an ERP.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel (including financial modeling) and/or Google Sheets is required.
  • Experience with a BI tool is highly preferred, especially PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Experience with financial system optimization, customization, and system-use process improvements.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Ability to partner with folks in any and all departments and business lines.
  • Solid presentation skills and the ability to “tell the story behind the numbers”…this is crucial!
  • Qualified candidates for this role will be business savvy, both hands-on and strategic, and able to keep an eye on the details while keeping in mind the big picture.
  • We are looking for people who are upbeat, and who can have fun and have a laugh while working hard!


How Much:

Base salary commensurate with experience - for now the range on base salary is likely $200,000 to $250,000, with perhaps some upwards wiggle room for a highly qualified candidate with very relevant work experience, qualifications, and skills, particularly in the tech sector. There will also be a robust bonus program based on individual and corporate performance, so total compensation can get into the $300,000s for a very qualified and seasoned candidate.


Where:

Based in Vancouver. HYBRID- 3 days/week in-office required, with option to work from home or from office the other 2 days. We are open to considering candidates from anywhere in Canada who are very serious about a permanent relocation to Vancouver within a reasonable timeframe.
