Gulf Islands Secondary School

School District No. 64 (Gulf Islands) invites applications for the 1.0 FTE continuing position of Vice Principal of Gulf Islands Secondary School commencing August 1, 2026, with a minimum salary of $141,771. The school is centrally located on Salt Spring Island and has a projected enrolment of 600 students in grades 8 to 12.

The Position

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality programs to secondary students, for the operation of the school, and for district-level duties as required. This position requires a high level of energy and an ability to sustain a heavy and varied workload. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to work successfully with all partner groups in a collaborative and dynamic basis. Evidence of previous school leadership is required, and experience as a principal or vice-principal is preferred.

Documented qualification must include:

  • Valid B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate of Qualification or equivalent
  • Relevant Masters degree, or in progress
  • Recent school teaching and leadership experience

  • Strong working knowledge of BC curriculum and student learning in a secondary school setting
  • Ability to guide the development and implementation of shared values, vision, mission, and goals to support well-being, engagement, learning, and success for all learners
  • Experience supervising learning with a focus on instructional and assessment practices that maximize student engagement and learning
  • Experience connecting school and community in authentic and sustainable ways
  • Ability to implement the goals in the District's Indigenous Education Enhancement Agreement
  • An understanding of environmental, place-based & differentiated education
  • A track record of excellent initiative, organizational, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
  • Strong, value-based practice supporting students with diverse learning needs
  • Working knowledge of the current BC Graduation Program
