Job Summary & Responsibilities

The teacher will be responsible for teaching in an interdisciplinary, inquiry-based model. The teacher must be able to create inquiry/project-based learning experiences that explore big ideas and concepts allowing students to thrive within an environment of complex knowledge construction as opposed to simple information assignments. Students will be expected to demonstrate learning in authentic ways beyond the four walls of a classroom and teachers will facilitate this as an integral part of the assessment cycle. This position is designed for a forward-thinking, collaborative educator who thrives in a team environment and is willing to continue to operate on the leading edge of education and adjust practice accordingly.

This position will involve working with our Inclusive Education students. Supporting these students in their various classrooms and finding valuable work experiences within our community

Education & Experience

  • Major/minor or diploma in Special Education
  • Case management experience required
  • Experience working with Work Study Programs required
  • Training and experience with Level B Assessments (ie. KBIT2/KTEA III)
  • Eligible for B.C. Certification
  • Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports

All teachers are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner.
  • Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation and assessment
  • Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.
  • Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students’ interest, effort, participation and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning
  • Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives
  • Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive and supportive of all students
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances
