The Parks and Roads Services Branch is looking for a dedicated Yardworker - Stores to join our Branch Integrated Support Services team. Operating independently without direct supervision, you will be the driving force behind ensuring your store is fully stocked so you can provide PPE, small tools, and consumables for our branch. You will take pride in keeping our district yards secure, fully operational, and compliant with safety standards. By balancing meticulous record-keeping with active, day-to-day facility management, your work will directly ensure our field operations crews have exactly what they need to succeed. What will you do?

  • Manage end-to-end ordering and purchasing processes via SAP and Ariba, conduct vendor research, obtain competitive quotes, and handle corporate credit card transactions and reconciliations
  • Direct physical inventory processes, manage stock levels based on demand, issue goods, coordinate stock transfers, and oversee all shipping and receiving logistics
  • Oversee building and yard entry points, manage multiple district satellite yards, and handle corporate key control boxes using specialized digital systems
  • Perform routine safety inspections of yards and facilities, maintain up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and audit emergency equipment like First Aid kits, AEDs, and fire extinguishers
  • Coordinate facility service requests (heating, electrical, cleaning), manage waste/recycle services, and oversee the safe transport and collection of hazardous materials
  • Create a resilient workplace by training team members on store management processes to ensure smooth vacation coverage and progression planning
Qualifications:
  • Completion of the tenth (10th) school grade or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in store and yard operations

Assets:

  • Working knowledge of SAP, inventory management software, and standard computer applications
  • Certificates in SAP-ECC, SAP Ariba Invoicing Materials, or SAP Ariba Buying Services
  • Procurement Fundamentals or Contract Management Fundamentals Certificates
  • Current Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certifications
  • Equipment operating experience and associated technical certifications

Skills required for success:

  • Ability to manage day-to-day purchasing, resolve invoice errors, and handle year-end financial reconciliations
  • Ability to keep shared spaces organized, oversee site security, and coordinate routine building maintenance
  • Proficiency using and navigating digital inventory and tracking software like SAP, Ariba, Asset Tiger, and GFMS Key Systems
  • Strong skills in tracking inventory, forecasting supply demands, and implementing effective workarounds during material shortages
  • Ability to manage a daily workload independently, meet tight deadlines, and adapt quickly to shifting budgets or corporate policies
  • Exceptional listening, verbal, and written communication skills to articulate logistical or financial details with contractors, vendors, and teammates
  • Ability to collaborate productively with satellite yards

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Successful candidates must be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots, gloves, goggles, sunscreen, and coveralls
  • Possession of current Emergency First Aid, CPR-C, and AED certifications
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • This role operates in both an office setting and field environment
  • Exposure to environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, inclement weather, dust, noise, light variation, vibrations, chemicals, animals, and exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards may occur
  • This role requires the completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks such as standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, and reaching, requiring physical stamina and resilience

Salary Range: $35.763 (Hourly); $74,673.14 (Annually)
