Reporting to the research team, the Research Coordinator will provide support to a newly funded research project examining the intersection of household food insecurity, the provincial school food program and the “pay what you can” cost sharing model. We are seeking to fill this position as soon as possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will:
- Work with the Principal Investigator, the Principal Knowledge User and the research team to oversee all aspects of the research process, ensuring that all partners are involved in the co-production of knowledge and resources
- Work with research team to establish a research advisory committee (including government, school and parent representatives and researchers)
- Facilitate coordination, collaboration, and inclusion for all research and community partners (schools, government); build positive relationships
- Facilitate project logistics, including meetings, data collection
- Liaise with other school food/food insecurity research and community groups such as PROOF, the Coalition for Healthy School Food and Food Secure Canada to share findings, exchange ideas and potentially collaborate in future research
- Work with graduate and honours students to ensure that project goals are being met
- Oversee knowledge translation activities, including organizing and leading community meetings, creating a website for the project, developing social media posts, preparing reports and research/policy briefs
- Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree in nutrition and dietetics, public health, health promotion, education, social sciences, or a related field; a master’s degree is considered an asset
- At least two years’ experience working directly with
- School communities (principals, teachers, parents)
- Provincial government departments (e.g. Social Development & Seniors, Education, Health and Wellness)
- Experience supporting or coordinating research projects, community-based projects, or multi-partner initiatives
- Experience developing and managing project budgets, generating reports
- Experience in nutrition/health policy and program development and evaluation
ASSETS:
- Knowledge of household food insecurity, school food programs, healthy public policy and health equity
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple project activities and manage timelines, meetings, logistics, and communications
- Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, track expenditures, and support financial reporting requirements
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of partners, including researchers, government representatives, schools, and community organizations
- Experience facilitating meetings, supporting committees or advisory groups
- Strong written communication skills, with experience preparing materials such as reports, briefing notes, research summaries, website content, or social media content
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency at Word, PowerPoint and other design software (e.g. Canva), spreadsheets
