The Branch Manager, Parks and Roads Services leads a dedicated team of nearly 2000 professionals who are essential in creating safe, livable mobility networks and open spaces to enable a better life for all Edmontonians. As the Branch Manager, Parks and Roads Services, you will oversee the very infrastructure and green spaces that define our city. Your leadership will ensure the smooth operation of our roadways, trail system and the preservation of our parks and green spaces. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence the quality of life for Edmontonians, ensuring both efficient mobility and access to vibrant natural spaces.

Reporting to the Deputy City Manager, City Operations, the Branch Manager will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Edmonton City Council and several other internal and external partners to understand the evolving needs of Edmonton and to ensure that our services meet those demands effectively. Leading 14 of the City’s subservices, the Branch Manager is pivotal in enhancing service delivery and fostering positive experiences for all who interact with our parks and roadways. Your expertise will contribute to informed decision-making at the executive level, helping to shape the future of our city’s essential services.

What will you do?

  • Lead the strategic direction and execution for Edmonton's vast parks and mobility network, ensuring alignment with city-wide goals, including ConnectEdmonton and the City Plan
  • Manage substantial operating and capital budgets, demonstrating financial stewardship and strategic resource allocation
  • Oversee a team of almost 2000 permanent and temporary staff, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation
  • Forge ongoing internal integration with City departments and branches to deliver seamless services to Edmontonians, businesses, agencies and community groups with a focus on inclusive decision making that recognizes Edmonton’s diversity
  • Drive continuous improvement and efficiency in service delivery, leveraging technology and best practices
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including City Council, Executive Leadership Team, and other internal and external partners
  • Ensure the operation and maintenance of over several thousand kilometers of roads, paths, trails and several hundred playgrounds and parks
  • Act as a change agent and catalyst for innovation, inspiring staff and colleagues at all levels
  • Continue to ensure that the GBA+ process and other inclusion processes are applied in the development and implementation of services and programs


Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, training and/or education in Engineering, Public Works, Business Administration, Project Management or other related disciplines
  • Experience providing strategic leadership in large, diverse organizations in either private and public sectors, including strategic development in a large organization
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the principles and practices of customer service, project management, service design, public works administration, and team leadership
  • Combinations of education and experience will be considered


Assets:

  • A Master’s Degree in a related field
  • A professional designation from a nationally recognized professional institute or association such as P.Eng., M. Eng., PMP, C.E.T. or a related designation(s). P.Eng requires the member to be in good standing with APEGA

Conditions of Employment and Work Environment:

  • 1 permanent, full-time position
  • Hire is dependent on Criminal Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be a cost associated with this requirement.
  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite.
  • Salary Range (Annually): $184,275.00 - $230,346.00
  • Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday
