Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.

Job Description
Position Purpose summary:
The Groundkeeper is responsible for maintaining the external grounds at the New Hope Community Church
Accountabilities
General
- Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning the main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and planting shrubs, pruning, weeding, and raking.
- Picks up equipment and supplies, i.e. fuel and soil.
- Provide support with the Food bank in organizing donations, removing garbage, keeping the Food Bank area clean and helping with unpacking food deliveries.
- Ensure proper storage and basic maintenance of equipment.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as required.
- Reports directly to Corps Officer or designate.
- Direct reports for this position: N/A
- The incumbent is responsible for their own time and effort only.
- This is a temporary part-time position based on 30 hours per week.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required and may include Saturdays.
- The supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule; includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable.
- The incumbent’s work environment is the property and grounds of the facility.
- The incumbent is required to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- The performance of the job requires operating tools and equipment, sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting/kneeling, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
- Steel-toed safety boots or shoes are required.
Education, Experience, Qualifications, Certifications, Skills
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- At least two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience gardening, operating machinery, and familiarity with relevant equipment.
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Be able to lift/move 50 lbs.
- Self-motivated and disciplined.
- Work within fire safety, health & safety, and emergency procedures.
- Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible.
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
- Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Effective organizational, time management; problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with little supervision but also able to accept direction when necessary.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
