St. Albert Public Schools is currently seeking applications for a Part-Time, Temporary, Early Childhood Educator to work in our Sprouts Junior Kindergarten Program at Wild Rose Elementary School. This position is Exempt from the union.

Sprouts Junior Kindergarten is the latest addition to our Preschool program. This program is located within two of our division schools, providing students in Sprouts the opportunity to become part of a vibrant school community with access to the library, gym, music program, cross-grade experiences and so much more. The 2026/27 school year will be our first year piloting the program; as we build the program, we will look at expanding it in future years to other elementary schools and in other programs.

Sprouts is offered Monday to Thursday at Kinosayo and Wild Rose Elementary Schools: this posting is for Wild Rose. This assignment will be a 10-month position observing the school breaks (summer, winter, and spring).

Hours of Work: 28.25hrs/week; 6.25hrs/day; 8:30am-3:15pm (half hour unpaid lunch); Monday-Thursday; 3.25/hrs Fridays; Part-Time Temporary

Start Date: August 26, 2026

End Date: June 29, 2027

Salary: $34,277 paid over 10 months


Job Summary:

The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) plays a key role in planning and delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate early learning programming within Sprouts. Reporting to the Principal, Preschool, and working under the guidance of a Teacher, the ECE implements the approved program curriculum and leads daily learning experiences for children to promote early literacy, numeracy, communication, social-emotional development, self-regulation, and school readiness.

Expected Duties of the Position:

  • Deliver learning experiences aligned with early learning outcomes and best practices in early childhood development.
  • Plan implementation of the approved program curriculum while contributing to its ongoing development.
  • Collaborate with the teacher and other colleagues to plan developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support exploration, creativity, language development, understanding of the world through play, and experiences in art, music, and dramatic play.
  • Create, deliver, and maintain a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and positive learning environment that support's exploration, play, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Observe and document children's progress to support responsive programming and early intervention planning.
  • Support children's social, emotional, language, and physical development through consistent routines, nurturing interactions, and developmentally appropriate guidance.
  • Support and maintain daily routines, transitions, and classroom management using positive-trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Recognize and demonstrate appropriate responses to safety hazards and administer first aid, as required.
  • Work closely with children to build trusting relationships that foster confidence, engagement, and growth.
  • Adapt programming as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with families to support shared understanding of a child's learning experiences, progress and learning goals.
  • Participate in meetings with the education team, multidisciplinary professionals, external agencies, as required, to discuss child's progress, problem-solve, and support program planning.
  • Use technology to support planning, documentation, and communication with families and team members, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or related education required; an Education degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience working in a school or learning setting with young children.
