This position is responsible for managing customer and stakeholder relationships through the delivery and evolution of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s customer engagement program, business improvement processes, and corporate marketing program. The Manager implements VFPA strategies led by the Trade Development team and supports other teams in executing their leading strategies to achieve corporate goals. This facilitation involves the coordination of cross departmental efforts, engagement with external stakeholders, provision of guidance and resources, and ensuring alignment with the overall corporate vision. Additionally, monitor progress and adjust as necessary to ensure successful outcomes. This individual must possess a strong understanding of trade dynamics, supply chain logistics, port operations, along with a proven track record in marketing and customer relationships in a multifaceted environment.

What You Do

  • Develop and maintain effective relations with strategic customers, key industry associations and major supply chain partners in support of port authority strategic objectives and strategies.
  • Develop and execute customer engagement plans that support strategic corporate goals and deliverables.
  • Participate in and attend national and international conferences and seminars on trade and transportation issues to reinforce the port’s leadership position and maintain close watch on the world economy affecting maritime trade.
  • Contribute to customer and stakeholder engagement processes, manage customer service and participate in supply chain improvement initiatives as appropriate.
  • Lead and participate in industry/stakeholder committees as required and develop and deliver presentations to a wide range and level of customers and stakeholders
  • Participate in the development of departmental plans and be responsible for the development and implementation of activities and programs designed to meet the VFPA’s strategic priorities.
  • Develop, maintain and implement marketing plans and communication tactics to promote the port, ensuring the port’s brand is prominently featured at strategic events and media opportunities across the five business sectors: automobile, bulk, breakbulk, container, and cruise. This includes researching key events and media channels, collaborating with the team to create promotional material, and tracking the effectiveness of these initiatives to optimize brand exposure and engagement.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of systems and processes to manage customer and stakeholder relationships in assigned business sectors, including development of Individual Engagement Plans with strategic customer accounts and closely collaborating with the port authority’s customer-facing teams.
  • Contribute to the establishment and implementation of Service-Level Standards (SLSs) for the department. Continuously monitor the SLSs to ensure they are met and provide necessary support to set the team up for success in achieving assigned targets.
  • Develop, promote and enhance the VFPA’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Manage activities and assist direct reports in the development and execution of Individual Engagement Plans, corporate marketing plan materials, and budgets in assigned customer groups and sectors.
  • Develop and implement marketing plans and budgets in conjunction with department employees.
  • Develop market intelligence reporting and assess, report and recommend new business opportunities.
  • Participate in the annual commercial fee review processes and recommend pricing strategies and fee amendments to meet the port authority’s requirement for financial self-sufficiency and to incentivize customer behavior.


What You Bring

  • Appropriate university degree in a related field such as business, economics or international trade
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience at a management level in transportation, port terminal management, or customer relationship management
  • Demonstrated focus in marketing and customer service in a multifaceted environment, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
  • Understanding of the interface between port, marine carriers, and terminal operations; transportation; and supply chain logistics
  • Preference for candidates with a background in marketing and/or account management, either through formal education, experience, or a combination thereof.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures is important to the port authority’s customer relationships.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking abilities to effectively engage with internal and external contacts across various levels of business, government, and the public.
  • Strong customer relationship orientation, demonstrate effective decision-making skills, and be adept at managing a wide range of responsibilities while fostering the development of these competencies in the port authority’s emerging leaders.

Working environment: Normal business working environment with requirement to travel of up to 25%.
