We opened our new Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre in early 2023 providing eight floors of modern and bright care spaces and will continue to transform our campus in the coming years.
The Emergency Department provides Registered Practical Nurses a unique opportunity to grow and utilize their skills. The MGH Emergency Department provides care for over 90,000 annually and takes pride in serving East Toronto’s diverse population. This dynamic, community oriented program has a team who are committed to learning and providing excellent patient care. What To Expect
As a member of the Emergency Department team, you will grow your nursing practice by:
- Applying knowledge of nursing science, process, and clinical judgment in the provision of safe, competent, compassionate, evidence-informed and patient-centered quality care.
- Sharing knowledge and expertise with others, while advocating for and promoting health and well-being of patients.
- Caring for your patients as part of a respectful, collaborative interprofessional care team.
- Working to your full scope of practice while collaboratingand consulting with the Registered Nurse and other members of the health care team.
- Working with the MGH team to advance your nursing competencies through ongoing unit-based and corporate educational and professional development opportunities.
- Theopportunity to work with individuals of all ages.
- The opportunity to work with individuals from low acuity to high acuity of care.
- A graduated orientation and work schedule tailored to the needs of the individual.
- Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and in good standing.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification required.
- PEARS (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year recent ER nursing experience required.
- Previous pediatric experience required.
- Recent clinical experience and/or practicum experience in an Emergency Department is considered an asset.
- 1 year of recent medical/surgical experience an asset.
- Mental health experience an asset.
- Recent experience with management of central venous access devices is considered an asset.
- Recent experience with paediatric population is considered an asset.
- Familiar with oxygen administration, ECG completion, simple sterile dressings, intermittent catheterization, NG tube insertion and application of basic orthopedic devices.
- Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication.
- Must be able to practice in self-directed manner and able to work independently under medical directives.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to function collaboratively within interdisciplinary team.
- Able to demonstrate skill competency within a fast paced environment.
- Knowledge of principles of adults teaching, excellent teaching skills.
- Commitment to unit-specific education, other training identified as necessary to practice safely and competently on the unit
- Computer competency required.
- Leadership potential or interest in quality improvement an asset.
- Demonstrates superior organizational skills.
- Good work and attendance record required.
