Based in our Elmira, ON location, reporting to the Planning and Materials Manager, you will manage an assigned portfolio of products and MRO & other suppliers, and support the materials department by collaborating with suppliers, customer service and internal departments to meet delivery and production expectations, handle inventory levels, and provide sourcing, purchasing, procurement and price negotiations to support the needs of the business.

Based in our Elmira, ON location, reporting to the Planning and Materials Manager, you will manage an assigned portfolio of products and MRO & other suppliers, and support the materials department by collaborating with suppliers, customer service and internal departments to meet delivery and production expectations, handle inventory levels, and provide sourcing, purchasing, procurement and price negotiations to support the needs of the business.

IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL:
- Plan, order, and expedite purchased goods for an assigned portfolio of suppliers to meet MRO needs and production expectations.
- Plan and complete RFQ’s through competitive bids and evaluation using total cost analysis for periodic review of assigned raw materials, all ECO and MRO/service activities.
- Ensure RFQ/updates, service contracts and procurement of all required MRO materials (Maintenance, Repair and Operation): encompassing everything from facility and operations equipment spare parts, building, cleaning and office supplies, consumables, infrastructure, maintenance and repair services, safety gear, approved CAPEX.
- Support production schedules through supplier negotiation, metrics and development for improved service, quality and cost performance. Assist peers with same as required.
- Locate, onboard and develop new suppliers using audits, competitive bids and detailed total cost evaluation, keeping the business needs as highest priority.
- Establish, implement and maintain supplier performance metrics and regular reporting.
- Actively pursue cost savings through driven quoting, source changes, material alternatives, and packaging, freight, or term considerations.
- Resolve and implement planning parameters to lead inventory and support production requirements for assigned components. Recognize and recommend disposition for obsolete or slow-moving inventory.
- Lead or participate in problem resolution and development of service improvements using root cause and counter measure processes. Recognize and relentlessly pursue continuous improvement opportunities.
- Fully cross train to maintain departmental efficiency during peer absences, including the Planning and Materials Manager.
FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:
- Diploma or Certificate in SCM, Purchasing, Business, or Operations Management.
- 1+ years current experience at the senior level as Buyer/Planner in a manufacturing environment
- 3+ years MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) purchasing experience: equipment and maintenance/facility spare parts, and comprehensive facility services in a manufacturing environment
- Excellent knowledge of ERP systems, vendor management and negotiations.
- Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel (including V-Lookup and pivot tables),
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills to relate effectively to people both internally and externally (i.e. employees, management, suppliers, peers)
- Excellent organizational skills to prioritize and coordinate one’s own work
- Ability to cope with multiple demands: flexibility and ability to multi-task, change priorities based on rush orders, time constraints, and frequent interruptions.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada – sponsorship will not be provided for this position.
- 7+ years combined experienced of procuring MRO supplies, raw material, casting, electrical/electronics, electro-mechanical components, purchasing and/or materials planning in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Oracle system.
- Experience with Kanban delivery systems and their set up.
- Experience in the electrical industry an asset.
- Familiar with re-order point inventory management systems and processes.
- Outstanding capability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, drawings, and government regulations.
- Ability to work occasional extended and/or flexible working hours.
