What You Can Expect
We’re seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join our engineering team, reporting to the Electrical Design Manager. You’ll lead the design and development of electrical systems for large-scale HVAC products, driving innovation, ensuring compliance, and optimizing for manufacturability. This role blends office-based design with hands-on collaboration across product development and manufacturing. You’ll provide technical leadership and mentorship, working closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to bring high-performance HVAC solutions to market.

We’re seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join our engineering team, reporting to the Electrical Design Manager. You’ll lead the design and development of electrical systems for large-scale HVAC products, driving innovation, ensuring compliance, and optimizing for manufacturability. This role blends office-based design with hands-on collaboration across product development and manufacturing. You’ll provide technical leadership and mentorship, working closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to bring high-performance HVAC solutions to market.
The Successful Candidate's Responsibilities Will Include
- Utilize Electrical & 3D CAD software (SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD) to create detailed models, schematics, component layouts, and wiring diagrams.
- Conduct peer reviews of engineering designs and bills of materials to ensure accuracy, quality, and on-time project completion.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to a team of 5+ electrical and controls designers.
- Act as a primary electrical authority and contact within the organization, ensuring best practices, safe practices and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and implement work instructions, design standards, test plans, and procedural documentation for electrical production environments.
- Support manufacturing, sales & marketing, applications, quality, supply chain, and customer service through all stages of the product lifecycle.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, suppliers, internal and external customers, and field service personnel to facilitate product design, manufacturing, commissioning, and service.
- Troubleshoot, mentor and support staff in electrical and control systems.
- Ensure all product designs comply with North American certification requirements, including CSA, and UL standards.
- Participate in risk assessments, problem-solving initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Lead or participate organizational projects and initiatives.
- Possible travel within Canada and the U.S. (Less than 10%) as needed for project support.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering, or a Technologist Diploma in a related field
- Eligible for registration with EGM or CTTAM
- 10+ years of experience in product design for large mechanical, commercial, or HVAC systems
- Strong knowledge of electrical components: transformers, power supplies, motors, contactors, relays, VFDs, actuators, and switches
- Proficient in control systems and instrumentation: PLCs, DDCs, pressure/temperature sensors, airflow monitoring, and related logic
- Skilled in electrical/control design using SolidWorks Electrical & 3D (AutoCAD experience acceptable; training available)
- Experience with design release, Engineering Change Control (ECC), and managing BOMs in MRP systems
- Hands-on experience with electrical testing tools and safety protocols
- Familiar with CSA, UL, and CE standards and certification processes
- Solid understanding of the full product development lifecycle
- Strong problem-solving, risk assessment, and project execution skills
- Valid passport; able to travel within Canada and the U.S. occasionally
